Vertical leg press?

I have always wondered what is the point of this kind of leg press. In case anyone doesnt know what I am talking about, it is the le press that you lay flat on back at 90 degree angle and push straight up. Is there any functional benefit to this kind of machine, or is just one of the many useless machines that gyms have?

There is a vertical leg press at Golds Gym where I train. I think it is excellent for bodybuilders. The machine really targest the front of the quads. As for building strength, that is questionable. I guess it depends on your training goals.

I train at Golds too, as that is where I saw it, although I have seen in other similar gyms as well. I have always wanted to try it, but wasn't sure if it would be worth it. I think doing calves on it could be interesting too.

Give it a try. . . I think you will feel a new stress directed to your quads.

Maybe I will try it as an accessory after squats this week, just for fun. Have you or anyone else ever done calves on this machine?
