vegetarian alternative

im fully aware that weightlifting and a vegetarian diet dont really go hand in hand but its not something im willing to give up, neither is weightlifting.

so im just wondering if there are any other vegetarians out there and what sort of diet you have?

i currently take aussie bodies perfect protein shakes, a mixture of lentils, chickpeas and assorted legumes, brown rice/bread and currently trying to cutback on excessive soy/tofu intake.

plus ive noticed a lot of people seem to mix their supplements with oats, is this done dry or what?

anyone else out there got any tips or preferances?

Well, if your not a Vegan and you still eat egg and dairy products, you can get a ton of good protein from Whey protein powders and eggs. There are also things like Boca Burgers and other Soy based "meats" out there. I myself am a vegetarian and have no problem getting over 300 grams a day. :p

yeah, eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, milk for protein

i like to make some oatmeal (the normal way) and then stir some protein powder into it with maybe some cinnamon, raisens and splenda.....ive also dumped some cooked oatmeal in the blender with my shake.

what do you mean by not go hand in hand?

you can get all required amino acids from plant sources....
....I don't see any specific reasons to eat meat... some people like the taste I guess...

no reason to cut back on soy or tofu, they are your friend

whole wheat breads...
mixed beans (kidney beans are good)
soy milk (other soy products)
tofu
different types of peas
ya oatmeal + protein powder rules...
nuts are good... go for unsalted...
peanut butter.. (natural)
pitas

then ya, if you want you can eat things like cheese, egg.. and drink milks.. but personally I'd prefere not to consume sources of food with cholesterol/satured fat... eggwhite is pretty safe :P

good luck :)

many thanks!

thanks heaps peoples, much appreciated.

i was trying to cut back on the soy products a bit since i was reading that it helps promote estrogen within your body which causes testosterone to drop.. or become less effeciant, honestly cant remember. but ive just got myself some flax seed oil and thats meant to help keep that in check? i love the tofu, ive built up a fair amount of meals i can whip up pretty dam quick.

just to clarify flax seed oil, a teaspoon worth pre work outs or after?

umm

well flax oil to help with phytoestrogens in soy? I believe flax oil has phytoestrogens also (not sure) ... and these are really weak, and can actually work as anti-estrogens, since they compete for spots on the estrogen receptor.... the phytoestrogens are far to weak to have negative effects, and can only be beneficial as I see it... since even men need some estrogen.

you can find protein in vegetable sources

but you don't have as much creatine in tofu or beans than in red meat
