Vascularity

for me, It's simple water and carbohydrate manipulation. Once your bodyfat gets low, those 2 things in the right amount at the right time will bring them out.

Dumb question here - does vascularity refer to merely the veins being VISIBLE under the skin or to only veins being sorta RAISED UP? Know what I mean?

I've been noticing more & more lately that I can see my blue veins through my skin ALL OVER - quads, pecs, shoulders. You can see blue lines, but they are not raised. Very odd considering I haven't been getting much leaner. It's as if my skin is becoming more translucent! & all the while I've been getting more tan. What the heck?

From the bodybuilding judges pointof view its when they pop out.

BUT, vascularity is actually the growth of the veinous support system. (Mabye arterial too, I cant remember). And what causes that is strenuous work of the muscle. More into the cardio realm... I think that old time bodybuilders experianced increased vascularity by doing high rep work precontest, and that caused the commonly accepted practice of light weights pre-contest.

Physically fatiguing a muscle makes the body more apt to create a better support system to bring blood more efficiantly into the area and more efficiantly remove waste by products.

But hey, whaddo I know?

Monster...that sounds about right!

I have heard that eating dairy products will decrease your chances of becoming vascular. Has anyone else heard that or am I just wierd? lol

Dairy products cause most people to hold some water under the skin. Its a lactose intolerance thing. Everyone is actually lactose intolerant, its just that the people who SAY they are are VERY intolerant to it. (oh well, I still like milk... especially the chocolate variety!)

Vasularity is strange...how can I have a "belly" and no veins anywhere except on my legs and calves? Seriously...I'm not lean...but I do have veins all around my legs and calves...and cross striations on my quads....odd...

Maybe it is something in the Pizza...

Yep, that is what I was talking about. I don't have them in my bi like that but my forearms and hands I do. Seems like it just happened all of a sudden....

Don't people just inherit bigger veins? I know folks who have bulging veins who aren't particularly muscular. I own some very skinny veins myself -- I get poked 2-3 times whenever I have to have blood drawn. I did notice that when I worked out or ran that the veins in my feet would stand up -- but I presumed that was because of increased blood flow.

The picture above of my arm was taking just a couple days ago, that was resting, no pump or anything. About 5 months ago, you would have had a real hard time finding 1 little itty bitty vein :)

Holy freakin' crap...I want my arms to look like that!!! I LOVE veins!!! Maybe it's cause I'm a nursing student...but at any rate...holy cow!!!

Nice veins, BG!!

B True mentions seeing veins in his legs but not other places. My arms, delts and forearms show a lot of veins even though i am about 16% bf. I guess they show most where we have the least bf. I keep the last of my fat on my abdomen. In my ass foto i was about 12% bf and was so lean in the ass i could see veins on it. Sort of freaky looking i thought. Ladies loved my big round VEINY ass. :FRlol:

BG what is your bf now? You look completely shredded.

I think this is definitely true. My boyfriend lifts only on occasion & that's been since January. Prior to that he was primarly sedentary. He's somewhat muscular but has KILLER veins in his arms. Really popping up in the forearm.

:D Totally sexy. Of course he thinks it's funny that I find it sexy!

Where and how big your veins are are determined mainly by inheritance, followed by training and leaness/sub-q water. One of the biggest non-genetic factors determining veiny-ness is AAS. These directly contribute to vascularization, which is one of the reasons that men are more veiny than women, and juicers get outrageous veins protruding (men AND women). I have good veins for phlebotomy, but don't have ANY that protrude. Presumably a few good cycles would sort that out if I wanted big veins.........
