thanks, shouldnt be a problem as I only drink once every 6 months or so :)

it really is tough on the liver huh? through which mechanism may I ask.

Tough on the liver, Valium?? First time I have heard or read that...
Maybe it time for me to do a little more research..?

the effects on the liver are on assumption ive made out of past experience, however you are supposed to take food with all narcotics

Prescription Medications Potentially Toxic to the Liver
Some antibiotics such as, tetracylcines or sulfanamides
Phenytoin (Dilantin) and valproic acid (Depakene/Divalproex); used to treat seizure disorders
Amiodarone (Cordarone); used to treat heart rhythm disturbances.
Methotrexate; an anticancer drug that is sometimes used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
Quinidine, Procainamide (Pronestyl) and Diltiazam (Cardizem); drugs used in heart conditions.
Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) and diazepam (Valium); tranquilizers
Isoniazid (INH) and rifampin; drugs used to treat tuberculosis
Halothane and isoflurane; inhaled anesthetics

Hey Iron. What are you takeing the valium for and what strength and type are you takeing??

I take valium, soma, flexorol, vicodin etc.. all the time to get fucked up, call me a junky or whatever, I obviously dont care. But I can give you some good info if needed. Pain pills should be treated with respect just like anyother potentially harmfull drug.

Thanks overrx!! I am researching as we are typing... I just read your info, interesting!! Ive been to two sites and havent found any info listing liver problems being a possible side of valium. Although I have found if you already have kidney or liver disease this is a possible effect:
"Kidney or liver disease—Higher blood levels of benzodiazepines may result, increasing the chance that side effects will occur"
http://my.webmd.com/content/article/3185.194

Still looking though, this is something I am very curious about!!! Especially since I have occasion to due Heavy cycles, that place alot of stress on the liver to begin with...

IG, I find that valium and xanax are very effective at putting me to sleep on nights that I am way too wound up or if I get too nervous or weird feeling from all the ECA during the day. One thing I would recommend is that you use very strict control with them. Limit yourself to no more than 3 times a week and try to use it only when absolutely necessary. If you are not careful a psychological dependance can sneak up on you really quickly, you just won't feel right without your daily dose. Once you get there it is hard to come back. Valium can be used safely and effectively just use caution. I have used it for a long time with no problems but I use it sparingly, only when neccessary.

valium is great to help induce sleep and it makes you feel pretty good too. But yes it is addictive.20 mg at one time is ok.even more if you've used it before.

i belive its more of a "if you take it on an empty stomach very frequently" type thing, i dont think you should have liver problems if taken with a meal, imo

Ok, I have been searching for a while... I give up tonight I can find no study so far that directly implicates valium in liver disease. I have found a couple of Articles / writtings where valium is used on patients with chronic liver disease previous to examinations, with unpredictable results. Here is one:
"In these introductory remarks the application of sedatives in patients with chronic liver diseases is discussed. Sedatives, for example, are used in agitated alcoholics with liver damage, as premedication before endoscopical examinations (emergency endoscopy for hemorrhage from the upper G.i.-tract, peritoneoscopy), and operations necessary for the treatment of typical complications of the liver disease (shunt-op. for portal hypertension). In all these situations the metabolism and pharmaco-kinetics of sedatives may be influenced by the liver disease in a non-predictable way. Generally, an enhanced, enforced and prolonged effect can be assumed. Long acting barbiturates are recommended for a long period treatment, diazepam in reduced doses is used as premedication for endoscopical examination. Opiates should be avoided."

PMID: 888484 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Anyway enough for tonight. I am coming to the conclusion while valium may be somewhat toxic to the liver, it is likely to be minor. In the same league with Motrin and Tylenol. All used enough or in high doses would not be a great idea!!

I usually take 20mg to get really sleepy and a bit of a high. 30mg makes you very happy though.

This is pretty funny though-
A friend of mine wanted to get fucked up really fast so he took 4 at once. Too bad he grabbed the wrong container and downed 4 cytomel before bed. He was unusually lean the next day. :)

xanax is better, but valium will do i guess :) I used to take 40mg and i would be pretty whacked for a few hours but valium seemed to wear off quick... anyone else? now if i take 3 mg of xanax i am whacked until i want to sleep then i sleep like a baby. As long as you don't get addicted to valium shouldn't be that bad on you. I'd say for it to be really toxic in the liver it would have to be majorly consumed or for extended periods of time, after all mother's little helper has been around for quite a while. Soma is good for sleep too, but don't drink on em... good lord, i drank on soma and it was differen than with any other pill, i called my friend crying at 5:30 in the morning and scared the crap out of her. Made me more depressed than i have ever been.
