UV Teeth Whitening?

I started thinking about this yesterday in that cheaters thread, when I brought up that movie with George Clooney and Zeta-Jones in it.. in this one part Clooney's character (who is obsessed with his teeth) is in the dentists office with that thing they use to keep your mouth from closing over your teeth and what looks like a UV light just sitting there shining on his teeth. What the hell is that? Is that how they whiten teeth for real if you don't use OTC teeth whitening products? Was that just a movie thing or is it for real?

yeah they can do that now and it is actually quite inexpensive

i got whitening trays from my dentist a few months back and took my teeth to the end of the "white" chart, which was very cool.....they were a bit too bright for a while, but they look better now

It's called Brite Smile.... it's about $500-600 - depending on the dentist. You sit there for like 2-3 hours under a bright light & it's done. However, you can also get the trays from the dentist - they get a mold of your mouth so that it fits perfectly. Takes about 2 weeks. Thing w/ Brite Smile there's no "touch-ups" so you'd have to go through the procedure again after about 6mos-1yr... The trays from the dentist are better only b/c you can touch it up whenever you want!

Good friend is a dentist, he says the UV whitening is ok. But that trays are the most effective.

And when I asked him if it was worth it to get trays, he said Crest strips are damn close in quality.
