using reverse curls for 5x5?

Little Rage

New member
i know u are suppose to use a heavy compound movement but the fact that i had shin splints in my forearm from heavy BB curl i would like to stay away from this exercise. so would reverse curls be fine or what else should i use?

If you're talking about a palms down grip then based on my experience I would say that you are likely to have more problems palms down that a regular curling grip.

I had terrible arm pains from a palms down 5X5 (and my forearms were going numb). Also I had problems and pains with a regular grip too but I took Glucosamine and now and the pains are gone. But when I go heavy with a palms down grip the pain always comes back no matter what.

That doesn't mean it will apply to you though. It's just my experience.

I would do higher reps for the movement, just due to the risk of injury to the wrists. Also bear in mind, while reverse curls place some stress on the biceps and brachialis, the bulk of the stress is taken by the forearms, which tend to have a predominance of slower-twitch fibers. Most individuals benefit from keeping the reps a bit higher for them. Just my opinion, I'm sure others with have differing ideas.
