US missile defense shield test is succesful.

Fonz

Thats 2 for 4.

The missile came out of Vandenberg AF-Base and the
interceptor came out of the Marshall Islands.
About 10-12 minutes ago, the test was succesful.
Pretty good. I'm impressed.

Godspeed

Great.......the surplus has been squandered, social security is in danger, education stinks, and we're going to spend money on a missle defense shield that will only piss off all the other countries.

Nice.

These tests are totally irrelevant in my opinion. The variables of the test were arranged and the conditions were favorable for a successful intercept. I can't be to impressed when the test was performed under controlled conditions. The test were also performed from site specific locations with coordinates for intercept already determined.

If you really believe that the US will be technologically capable of building a missile defense shield in the next 20 years you are extremely naive.

Consider this - an enemy launching missile will not tell you it's launch site co-ordinations, trajectory, payload or destination. To think that the USA could seriously control every missile launched and intercept it before it reaches it's destination is believing in science fiction. Maybe in a 100 years it will be possible.

hardgainer (not so naive)

Guys, Guys I'm an aerospace engineer.

I knew about the details of the test.

Obviously, striking a target w/o any pre-determined
co-ordinates, speed, geometry etc... etc....
is not possible with todays technology.

However, even with all the factors pre-determined
it's STILL DAMN HARD!!!

The success of this test means that they have perfected
the use of a new type of high-altitude gyroscope.
(Which was the only reason I followed the test for)

The bad news for you US people is that Bush has decided
to step up the number of tests to one per month.
At $100 million a pop, thats $1.2 billion a year

Sorry guys, but your president is pretty much in the pockets
of your defense contractors.

Godspeed

Russia warned that it may spark another arms race....I thought they were broke?? RADAR

Good info fonz, so the president of the USA is making sure the defense industry makes an extra couple of billion dollars of American taxpayer's money, hah! What else is new?

hardgainer (hah!)

He's not "in the pockets of the defense industry." If you haven't noticed, he is pushing hard for a missile defense system and that's why he wants to go forward with more research. It's his baby now and he wants it to move forward.

Geez, this is ridiculous. A Republican can't do or say a damn thing without being accused of being in the pocket of some industry. Dems raise money just like the Reps so.....

Oh yeah, RyanH's continually predictable responses to anything involving Bush, a Rep, or a Dem is pretty ridiculous in it's own right. You're becoming a joke man.

You are correct.

The idea stinks and has always stunk... and it threatens to begin a whole new weapons race............

I say fuck the missile shoot down idea, because if we build this shield, the real trouble is our enemies will just smuggle in their nukes disassembled and reassemble them here on US soil and detonate them anyway. Cheaper terrorist activity is how these people work.... So that really fucks up the whole concept now doesn't it? It will never work just on that basis alone.

Well it does cost us 1 mill for a hammer, and 20 mill for a toilet seat. This should be right up our alley for spending....Sounds like a bargin to me lol...

We won't have a functioning shield tomorrow, or even 10 years from now, but what's wrong with developing the technology to protect yourself?

I don't think America has to be scared from attacks!
Who the hell should dare to attack America!!!!
But we ....... in Belgium?
I guess 90% of the board members doesn't know much of nothing at al from Belgium!

u invented chocolate :D

and sprouts

the 2 cancel each other out therefore u do not suck

but if u can get this system working i could understand u wanting to build it. but it wont work though, and it just jepordises world securioty. china has already accused the states of using this as a tatic to render its ICBM arsenal redundant. and russia may be poor, but they hve enough money to launch alrerady existing misslies. problem is when they do they tend to hit blocks of housing in the ukraine (im not joking, they tested a missle out, a few minutes later this housing area was destroyed and russian missle fragements scattered everywhere :mix:

On a more serious note, severely lacking funds has never stopped some countries from building up their arms stockpiles. :(

I'd much rather DONATE money from my paycheck to keep our country the most powerful nation in the world then put it towards Social Security. But liberals give me no choice in what I can and can't do with my money. I have a father that has done quite well for himself, and he laughs at the social security benefits trhat he will receive. The old farts that are on it now never put in NEAR the amount we will have. Socialism, Socialism, Socialism.

Shut up....I just hope our fuckin premier minister of Canada will be part of this project.......

yea 2 for 4 and now the chinese and russians are climbing back in bed together. 1st time since 1950 between Stalin and Mao tse tung

"The document comes amid the two countries' mounting concern over American missile defense plans and their attempts to attract more nations into their own orbit."

I like what FrankRizzo said...I'd much rather have the freedom to give money for defense than have it stolen from me in the name of some outdated New Deal program that is in shambles anyway...

I hope this does start a new arms race, because we all know who will win...and when that happens, we'll be all-the-more-powerful!! Maybe we'll start colonizing...

:)

America could be a great empire, if we'd just find the balls that have disappeared slowly over the last few decades, BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

(slightly joking, slightly NOT!)

a/ never gonna work;

b/too goddamn expensive;

c/if anybody wants to bomb a US city, they can bring a nuke in by truck, shipping crate or a damn canoe.

d/ the money we're wasting in this should go to real needs - military pay, education etc.

Yeah, and we'll never send men to the moon either. What kind of ridiculous idea is that? I bet the next thing you tell me is that we're going to shoot them up there in a big rocket or something.

I take it Social Security, Medicare, public education, and the investigation of Con-did-it is not "goddamn expensive?"

You don't build a shield to protect you from a pebble. You build a shield to protect you from an avalanche. We're not only talking nukes here either.

The goal is that anything, in any quantity, on its way to the U.S. that we don't like will be destroyed. Security like that is "too goddamn expensive?" I'm sure the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki wish they had a president worried about such a "goddamn expensive" project.

Wrong.

The money we're wasting on social programs should go to military pay, education, and whatever is left should be pumped into "this."

Agreed. I think "Planet America" would be more peaceful and cooperative than "Planet Earth." Unfortunately, we will have all of these human things still lying around, but at least they'll behave better.
