As some of you know, I recently got my 25th anniversary DVD of Pumping Iron. I had never seen it until a few days ago. Am I the only one that thinks Franco Columbu got robbed in the 1975 Mr. Olympia. The only things Arny had on him was height. Maybe this is just the short guy coming out in me, but dammit! I think that Columbu should have won. Is this blasphemous or has anyone else made that observation?

Franco has this spot in the middle of his chest that looks like a rail road spike was driven through it. That is the one thing that beat him.

Franco was the more complete athlete, but Arnold was the better bodybuilder.

Franco was built for weight-lifting and power-lifting and circus strongman stuff.

By the looks of him and Arnold back then, their measurements were pretty close. I just thought it looked more impressive on Columbu because it was all packed on a smaller frame. He was an athlete though. At one time, he was a boxing champion.

I thought the opposite, I have always thought the size and sym. looked much more impressive on a larger frame as I have always associated more hard work to attaining that much over all size, not in relation.

BTW, did you hear when Arnold was talking about how he admired Dictators? Its right at the part when he says babies drink milk, men drink beer.

If I lived in Cali, I'd be concerned.

Yeah, I caught that part. It came out that he said something to that effect during his election. I believe he even metioned Hitler in an interview at one time. It's hard to say how much of that whole movie was dramatized for show and how much was real. In the special features, he talks about some of the things they did to try to make it more interesting. Like that whole thing with Mike Katz's T-shirt was added in. The part when they were throwing around the football and that guy said he was going to hide his shirt once they got to Africa was filmed after the contest took place. He did, however, admit that it was a real blunt he smoked and that he did inhale.

best line in the movie:

"Franco's pretty smart, but Franco's a child. And when it comes to the day of the contest, I am his father. He comes to me for advices. So it's not that hard for me to give him ... the wrong advices."

did lou ever compete in the Olympia after that? if so, did he win?
