Hello,I thought I would post some of the things I've been working on lately. I'm weighing in at 180lbs I've been training events for Marylands Strongest Man witch is august 7th. I set a PR in the conans wheel I loaded 605lbs on the carrier and walked 2 full rotations (2 rotations on my wheel is like 1 rotation on the big wheels). My latest back lockout and hold on my yoke was 740lbs 1set for a 30sec hold and 1set for a 45sec hold on these I set the crossbar 1 hole higher than the hole that I use to walk with.
I train heavy events 1or2 days a week and the rest of the week I train events lighter for longer distances and add micropounds every time. I am a huge beliver in this method of training because you can train everday and not overtrain and still keep gaining strength. On backwards sled drags I'm up to dragging total weight with the sled 270lbs on a slight incline in the grass for up to 130ft non stop and I usually go another 20-30ft. I do long distance yoke walks for 400-700ft no drops with the crossbar 1 hole lower than my heavy walks yesturday I did 300lbs for about 400' then lowered the crossbar 1more hole for a fuller squat and walked it back these are also good warm-ups before heavy training I want to build the strength to do these with 500+ with ease. I sometimes go even 1 hole lower were I'm just above a parallel squat and do squats starting from the bottom.
Another thing I've be doing alot is my sandbag carrying medleys I started this a few months ago with 4 bags 100Lb,125,150,and175 ea carried 50ft lightest to heaviest and ea bag was picked-up from the ground and carried in front of me(no shouldering) this makes it harder to carry them plus Graham dosen't allow shouldering of any object in his contests. I do this about once a week and go a little farther each time. I decided to go 120ft. Last week I carried 5 bags 100lbs for 120ft than jogged back 125 joggedback 150 joggedback 175 joggedback and 200 I did this at a faster pace than the 4 bags. Now I've added a 225lb bag and I carried all six of them yesturday 50ft and will work up to 120ft oh and I always have to carry them back too.
I've also been doing some odd stuff like one handed staddle dl's on the straight bar,one hand sandbag presses,3"bar work and a few new things like carrying my yoke on top of my head. I fold up a towel to put on my head for some cushion hold on to the sides and take very small and slow steps I'll go up in weight very slow on these I started with the empty yoke 150lbs I'm up to 155lbs now I also started lifting with my teeth now this I'm starting off very light 25lbs. I always swore I wouldn't start doing this but now I would like to lift a heavy weight by my teeth I'm very, very careful on these, it does feel pretty good so far.
