We went to Charleston, SC to Roper Hospital to see my wife's sister who had a brain aneurysm Sunday morning. We were really expecting the worse because the mortality rate of these things are so high. We were amazed to learn that she was awake and responding favorably to everything they were doing there to help her.
Even the doctors were astonished. She had a hole drilled in the front of her skull about where the bangs of her hair started. A drainage tube was inserted and the fluid that drained from her skull was analyzed and measured every hour.
An MRI was performed yesterday morning and the results were read sometime before we arrived there. The doctor said that the MRI showed absolutely no signs of an aneurysm. He said that they see about three cases a year where tests are done and they can't find any signs of any abnormalities. He said that what she had was called a "Venous Aneurysm". It is basically an aneurysm that leaks blood into the area effected and the body immediately starts repairing it and sometimes it leaves no traces and even modern technology can not detect it.
We had a chance to see her in the SICU(Surgical Intensive Care Unit) and she really looked good. She recognized us but she doesn't remember anything of what happened. She still has a long road ahead in healing but her hospital stay is expected to end sometime around this coming weekend.
They are still going to do some tests to rule out other things but the doctor feels pretty confident he has the correct diagnosis. Roper Hospital is supposed to have an excellent heart and stroke center with an excellent staff experienced in these things. It's strange how things work out because if she had been anywhere else besides Charleston, I might be typing something totally different.
All I can say is prayer works and for those who offered their prayers and wishes, I thank each and everyone of you. Things could have been so much worse and I'm thankful they weren't.
Thanks again everybody! We have truly been blessed.
