I applied to:

McMaster BHSc (Honours), Biochemistry, and Kinesiology
University of Western Ontario Biological and Medical Sciences
University of Toronto Physiology

Will graduate with 89-91% average. Wish me luck :D

Good luck!
That's what I was doing last year... I applied to
McGill University
Queen's (for both arts and con-ed)
University of Toronto
University of Waterloo
York U
Trent (for the Queens-Trent Con-Ed program)
University of Western Ontario

LOL, at the time I wasn't 100% sure where I wanted to go, although I was fairly certain I didn't want to go to U of T or York (I wanted to go outside of TO) or Trent (the school just didn't appeal to me), so I applied all over the place

I ended up going to Queen's.

What are your long term goals?
Choose wisely. I knew people who wanted to go into medicine, and against my advice, they went to U of T and had their asses handed to them on a platter with the cocks U of T used to rape em.

Gotta love that imagery.

You average should be sufficient to get you into what you want, especially since you're not in the double cohort like I was, you needed a 90 indefinately.
You can apply to more shit if you like in case you want to keep your options open.
How are the extra curriculars looking (not as important as marks). If you're really keen, you can start raiding scholarships. Queens and U of T tuition are probably similar no..but at least you can stay home with U of T (I highly recommend going to a dorm)

cool so did you end up doing concurrent ed or what?

the $$$ queen's asks for is too much for me

Yep, I'm doing concurrent education. I'm in my first year now.

cool jaded.

red dragon - yeah, no double cohort (w00t!)

extra curriculars are covered, i do a lot of amnesty type stuff, bascially run the school's weight room, and play vball competitively. going to be playing ultimate and badminton as well

Are you going for pre-med?
Guyton is a very good book to understand concepts.
But Ganong is the best book of Physiology.

yes, i plan on going for med school, if i can:

1) make it into these universities
2) make it through the university
3) make it into med school
4) not loose my mind in the process

Be advised that your lifestyle will change, if you want to get into medicine, keep in the habit of keeping those grades up. Never fall below 80, and get involved in things you like.

You should make it in and through university no prob, I never knew anyone that couldn't handle it...unless they had sheer hate for their course, or studying it for the hell of studying. They say your marks may drop 10-15%, but that is within your control, becareful with U of T though, their reputation is more important than your ambitions.

Good luck, you sound very ambitious and I'm sure you'll be successful.

Tuition can be pricey...mine is $4800 but I'm taking more credits than the general course load since im doing con-ed. I have a few friends in life sci, not sure how much their tuition is. Res is what is most expensive, my residence this was almost 9k :worried:

9k is ridiculous. I always heard that Queen's was kinda fucked up about that.
My friend got free residence when he became a res prez...I hope that's not the actual title.

Waterloo has sort of a 'take 5 courses, get the 6th one free...if you dare' policy. A 6th course isn't really that much more work, gives me more GPA padding for compulsory courses I know will fuck up (subjectively marked arts courses)

Good luck man, it's a long trek but an interesting one :). But remember to not close off any other options, but going for med should get you ready for most things due to its strenuous requirements (3.8-3.9 GPA :S)

You have to be very organized in your studies.
Every level you advance, you would have to be able to understand more complex processes. I think that is where people fail. Most people are good at rote memory.
In medical professional exams, most questions are indirect.
Good luck.

thanks bros. don't start talkin about med school just yet.... i'm not even out of high school yet :)

chemistry exam is tomorrow. oh my, i should be studying! someone, quickly, ask me something!

High school chemistry is childsplay to what you'll get in university, but the difficulty you experience will not change that much. You will definately need what you learn now, it'll be the basics. Same goes for physics/biology etc. The MCATs dont' go too too far beyond high school bio/chem/phys though.
What are you doing now? Stoichiometry or something, I remember the shitty TDSB curriculum, I was one of their sorry guinea pigs...on the lower end.

who was plato and why

no, i'm doing acid/base equilibrium, etc.... that shit is no prob for me, same with organic chemistry. i'm into the biochem combination, exercise physiology, etc.

what's really messing with me are the little things they bring up from quantum mechanics, as they love to ask trick questions regarding wave particle duality or whatever...

Being an international graudate, I don't anything about the Pre-Med.
But if you need any information and help about Med School and beyond, please do'nt hesitate to PM me.
I love to love to help people. The process is a reward in itself.

oh okay I see

so who was the first man to walk on the mooon?

If it's a multiple choice test, make sure the first thing you do is cross off any answer that makes resonable sense. Choose from the remaining.

If it's a written test, you can verify your answer's correct if it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and you think you make a huge mistake somewhere.

Make sure not to apply these handy test-taking tips to other classes.
