Unintentional Influence

New member
Ever have an influence on someone or vice versa without intending to? For instance, with regards to conversational habits - I talk to a girl who says, "yeahyeah" and now I find myself using that when people are telling me a story. I tend to say, "What the fuck" a lot and now one of my assistants says it all the time.

Years back, I dated a girl who winked at damn near everyone she knew when she smiled - I found myself doing the same - took me years to break that habit even after we broke up.

yes. happens to me all the time. for some reason I pick up on other people's habits (not personal habits, more like speaking habits) when i spend alot of time around them

you are who you hang out with...

especially if you are easily influenced like yourself...

I used to smoke around babies and I'll be damned if all the pre-schoolers around here aren't dragging on Lucky Strikes!

Yeahyeah. Happens every damn time I have a mistress - her and my wife get on the same calendar! What the fuck!?

I know. it's weird. Is it because their mood is influenced by their cycle and they influence each others moods? like the mood-cycle link works both ways?

The worst part is when you're still saying certain things but they have long worn out, and you don't realize it because you're getting older and also wearing out. Examples include...bogus, awesome, rad, boiiii, anything ending in "izzle", etc.

fo shizzle.

i disagree about the term awesome. I use that one all the time and Im cool :supercool

it happens, and there's not much you can do about it. i think you are more prone to this happening the more you like someone.

it's actually a natural act to want to assimilate to your surroundings. in sales (i was a stock broker on wall st.), you get to the point in your pitches/meetings when you can control the client with your actions. you know you have them when changing your seating position (i.e. leg position, weight, lean, etc..) causes them to move in the same way. it's a barometer of their confidence/trust/feelings towards you.

true - also how if you don't like someone you do the opposite or least similar thing (sit away from them - turn away from them, etc)

I had a college professor that was Indian. I inadvertantly found myself talking to him one day using an Indian accent. I must have sounded like Apu from "The Simpsons".

ohhhh, I thought this was unintentional flatulence.

its funny you mention that because when i used to dance, all the girls would be on their monthly or else get it within days of being around each other and man oh man they would be catty -quite the experiences i tell you. It got pretty bad sometimes and other times they were emotional wrecks.
