Unconditional Positive Regard

I will rent to you one of my kids for this weekend! Atleast you will have a renewed value of birth control!

your talking about smurfy aren't you...

LMAO, no....she makes it easy....

I'm talking about patients.....who come in with self inflicted problems..... Whether it be from trying to OD for the 42nd time, to the guy racing his motorcycle on the freeway without a helmet, to the guy with COPD and lung cancer who cant breathe because he's been smoking 3 packs a day for the last 40 years.........even people who are just general assholes trying to hide their insecurities (my other favorite EF member).........

I'm supposed to hold these people in unconditional positive regard..... It's not easy. Most of the time, I can atleast act like it. But at times I falter....

Yes, I agree it's hard to be objective. I'm not a professional health care worker like yourself although I was a nursing assistent for 2 1/2 years. The only thing I can pass on is how our social workers suggested we approach a patient without judging from our personal set of ethics..."you don't know what past experiences a resident/patient has had which fueled their particular choices in life, and it's not *your* job to judge, but to treat their ailment/injury".

But, You're absolutely right, it's hard to not see with a subjective light and bring a personal bias into treatment.
