Ralph_Wiggum said:You are basically comparing apples to oranges. They are two completely different shows, targeted towards two completely different demographics, with two completely different budgets. In terms of goals and expectations placed on each show, TUF is clearly the winner. In the cableTV share the UFC has, they have far surpassed the expected/desired ratings for the show.
I personally don't like the Contender, but that doesn't make it a bad show as I'm not the target demographic for them. IMO, I feel like I am watching footage from the projects here in New Orleans w/ a movie star showing signs of the early stages of senility thrown into the mix. I don't know if its the GH or what, but, Stallone is starting to go downhill in the head thinking that he is in any way an authority in boxing. I understand the marketing perspective on why he is thrown in there, so I can't fault him for it in that respect. Another thing that bugs me about the show is how Mark Burnett tries to throw too much of his over-dramatic movie-wannabee crap into the show. I'm sorry, but you can't throw in symphony music that sounds like its from the soundtrack to a classic film into scenes in the show where you have some boxer saying, "this is for my family homie.. I gots ta get food on da table for dem" or "Hey, I'm talkin' yo! why don't I come down dere and whip yo ass right now dog! I'm da best! East side fighters for life homie!" I'm sorry, but classy/civilized music and today's current state of boxing just don't mix.
The Contender will continue to fail to meet their expected ratings, b/c to put it bluntly, the mainstream networkTV audience who watches realityTV junk are just not interested in any combat sport, especially boxing.
I hope they get some extra viewers from the wrestling set. I'd love to see the sport grow even more.BOOEY said:I don't watch wrestling, but I can just imagine how many wrestling fans watch that extra hour on Spike just b/c it's on the same channel right after their favorite show. Kinda like when NBC put anything after Seinfeld, it worked, but as soon as they changed slots, it usually plummeted.
One jackass in particular(who happens to own the house) repeatedly says "Professional Wrestlers are the greatest athletes in the world."

One thing that sort of irritates me is when I go to a friend's house which is a designated "hang out" spot. Mondays, everybody blows a damn blood vessel when wrestling is on, but they all seem to hate TUF and all MMA. They claim it's boring. I swear I want to put him in a rear naked choke and make him say "wrestling's not real!!"
I give some of them credit for doing some real acrobatic stuff, especially as big as they are, but it's still staged.
