Recently got a fancy new lens and I am still learning how to use it. Neither one of these pictures has the level of sharpness, detail and focus I'd prefer, but I still like them....and I think my moon picture isn't too bad for a first attempt.

Camera is a nikon d3100, with a 150-500 Sigma lens. Settings were aperture f/8, shutter speed 1/60, iso 100 (for the moon pic, don't remember the sunset settings). For anyone who might be curious.

You took a photo of someone taking a photo at the beach, or is that you?

great pics! Love that moon one.

Thanks! I've seen some crazy clear pictures of the moon, mostly with people attaching a camera to a telescope, but I know the lens I used can do better. Mitch actually gave me some solid tips on how to improve it, but now I have to wait for similar conditions the next moon cycle.

It's been SO clear lately at night this weekend with the full moon!

ok.. I am out to buy this equipment. I was in the mountains this weekend and dying to take some great moon shots.

The sigma lens will hurt your wallet, but it is well worth it if you like nature (for long range shots of animals) or night photography.

haha, you gotta pay to play!

I use nothing but L glass..:D

I think spending a thousand dollars on a lens qualifies as paying!!

I'm not saying I'd never drop the cash, but I can't justify doing it at this point. You are WAY more active with this stuff than I am, and you have a better grasp of what it is you are actually paying for. I don't even know what the F L glass is, or why it is preferable lol.

plank has never used that lens, or that camera. they're sitting on a shelf right next to all those guns which have never been fired.

even a million dollar lens couldn't capture a true beauty like yourself babe!
