i'm buying a bigger tv in 4 weeks... i had my eye on a 46" projection number but.. i was looking today and saw some great pictures on the flat screen tv's... i could only afford a 36" then... but it seems they have better sound than the projection too... what are your thoughts?

oh, best buy has a tv for 12,999.99 hmmm, thats next :)

GET OUT OF THE HOUSE, EITHER THAT OR SPNED MORE TIME ON ELITE WITH THE REST OF US LOSERS!!:D

projection TVs suck. Get a flat screen HDTV, even if it's smaller.

so bigger isnt necessarily better? i wanna see a life sized donovan mcnabb running around.

I love my flat screen, it has a perfect image. if you want the picture bigger, then just sit fucking closer to the tv! I rather have perfect quality DVDs on a computer moniter than "ok" quality on a huge 50 inch tv.

SONY VEGA XBR.........NUFF SAID.

THE VEGA AND THE VEGA XBR ARE DIFFERENT. THE XBR IS MUCH BETTER.

Vega is good, don't get plasma though. Those things break in like 10 years, and if you are paying 2k for a TV you want it to last longer than a pet.

VEGA'S ARENT PLASMA. AND IF YOU EVER FIND A PLASMA TV FOR 2K, PLEASE TELL ME. I WOULD LIKE TO BUY IT.

WHO WANTS TO KEEP A TV FOR 10 YEARS ANYWAY. EVERY 2 OR 3 YOU NEED TO GET A NEW ONE CUZ IT IS SO DAMN OUTDATED. YOU HAVE SHIT LIKE 6.1 COMING OUT AND HD AND SHIT LIKE THAT. IF A TV IS OLD, IT ISNT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW SHIT THAT COMES OUT.

2 bits of advice:

1) be careful when buying an expensive hdtv set, because the standard has not been set in stone yet.

2) don't buy a tv for the sound. get a good surround sound system for your audio.

right now... its : 1. size 2. picture quality

the only things that matter much.

My buddy snagged a 35" HDTV floor model for $1000. I forget the model and make, but we watched Black Hawk Down on DVD on it. Fucking unreal picture quality. I'd definately go HDTV in my next purchase.

First of all, do not buy anything like a good tv from the big box retailers. They usually carry the lower end models of electronics. do some research on the web and make a good choice. I am in the electronics industry and i can tell you this

1 buy hd only. not SDTV ( standard definition TV )

2 spend more time on a good home theater surround( Onkyo is a good choice)

3 get a satellite first. ( greater picture and sound and with the merger more HD chanels are comming out the first quarter of next year)

4 there is no more rule as far as how far back you sit from the TV to judge how big. A decent HDTV will look just as good close up as far away. ( I have a 60" Mitsubishi HDTV and we sit about 10 feet back)

5 Negotiate on price. For instance i sell a plasma for $8,000 it only cost me $3,200 to buy it from the manufactor.

6 great deals on E-bay

PM me if you want any inside info

Definately do HD if you can afford it. I work in TV sports and have seen what live football in full HDTV quality can look like- YOU WANT TO SEE IT!!!

Next thing to find out is if your market even has an HDTV station on the air yet (if your around nyc i can help, otherwise you'll have to poke around) If you dont, then your going to have to get DSS to get a HDTV signal into your TV.- the good news is that if you do that, you only have to buy the Satelite Reciever and you dont need the 'optional HDTV tuner' for your tv.

If you get the dish or you can rcv off air tv let me know if you get the HD set and I can tell you what games this NFL Season will be carried in HDTV (for my particular network)..

50" Panasonic HDTV Plasma Monitor

Aspect ratio 16:9
1366 X 768 pixels

(no - I wish)

God I almost had an orgasm....

48" mistubishi rear proj. --- It's 6 years old. Still works great. It will become my kids tv when I buy a plasma screen.

man, i aint missed a football game (eagles) in 7 years.. of course i got me some sunday ticket on dss...

so you think hdtv is more important than size? i'm a fuckin size queen man... i want big

If you are into football, then DEFINTELY get the HD set.

You will need just the HDTV compatable TV set, and you will need a new DirecTV receiver the prices of the tv varies, and the rcvrs are anywhere between about $350-500.

That being said, here is some insider infor for you:

-This season, CBS will be airing their 'A' college game every week in HDTV. Depending on Sponsorships, they will also be producing a number of regular season games in HDTV and all post season action is done in HDTV (all of these games you can pick up in full 1080i (the 'better' standard for HDTV) on DSS)

All analog stations are supposed to be taken off the air in 2007, and replaced with HDTV broadcasts only. Now would you really want to spend all this money now on a BIG tv and in 5 years have to watch everything on TV in letterbox format?

Spring for the extra bucks now and pick up an HD set. I personally like what I have seen from Sony, Mitsubishi, and Panasonic as far as nice looking sets.

If you got any more ?'s shoot me a PM.
