Trying to understand carbs.

Just wondering if someone could explain to me if I am correct about this. I am on a 150 carb, 220 protein and 45 fat diet per day. I always thought that fruit was good for you know matter what, but after looking at the carbs in fruit it is loaded with carbs. If I eat much fruit I will definately go over the 150 grams of carbs a day. Is this correct or is there something that I am missing because I like fruit and would hate to stop eating it. A friend of mine is a vegetarian and eats several oranges and bananas a day along with vegetables and has very little body fat.

Fruit is good for you.... it has vitamins and minerals and anti-oxidants and all that good stuff. It's healthy. But from a bodybuilding point of view, the carbs aren't the best.... since the carbs in fruit is mainly fructose, bodybuilders try to avoid it and get their carbs from other sources. As I understand it, fructose is more readily stored in the liver than other sugars.... and when the liver can't hold anymore, any excess is stored as fat.... which is why fructose in general is avoided where possible.

That's not to say you'll get fat from eating small amounts of fruit, but then again.... you can eat small amounts of ice-cream each day and not get fat. Doesn't mean it's the best thing to do.
