Trying something new need help

I've been working out for a couple of years but I have always steered clear of olympic style lifts. This is because lack of instruction, and being scared to be honest. My questions is while i'm learning and developing form, is it better to use wicked low weight that can be very easily manage? I'm doing the WOD(cross fit), with low weight, but I don't feel like i'm getting a full work out because of the weight that i'm using. By the time I get to a weight that seems to make me work I can feel my already unexperianced form slipping.
Here is a link to what i'm using as a guide for my form.

start out with just the bar and continue to add weight. Form is obviously more important than the weight on the bar, and for you it doesn't seem like your ego will get in the way so that shouldn't be a problem. Learn to Squat and Deadlift before anything else. Check out some videos online on proper form and maybe try youtube and type in Rippetoe Squat or Rippetoe deadlift

Good luck

Try a warmup set with relatively low weight to start your exercise off. I usually do my first set slowly and focus on form before adding more weight.

Things like squats, deadlifts, and bench are essential if you want to get stronger!

Keep it up, it only takes time in the gym to get better at it.

Yeah same as above mate, get your form right and you will know when its time to start upping the weight.

are you just talking about doing power cleans then? You said you were steering clear of "olympic style lifts" so i assumed squatting/deadlifting was in there.. Anyways, if you know how to do squat/dead/bench and can do rows/oh press, i think you're fine. If you want to learn cleans, maybe someone a bit more experienced can show you a good video of them.
