I am going to be getting a new truck soon and want to have a nice system installed into it. I dont know much about speakers and amps etc... but I want it to boom. I like bass. Also what is a good xm radio to buy? I want to spend around 2-4 thousand. It will need to fit into a full size chevy silverado without taking up the back seat.

IDK bro if he has three jl subs wired in parallel, then it's gonna be fuckin loud. He's going to first of all need a good head unit. This is the cd or dvd or cassette player for anyone who doesn't know. Rockford makes an excellent amp. If you wanna go balls to the wall then i would go with PPI amps. They are top of the line but very expensive. 4K is a lot of money and if you're gonna spend it then do it right. Get some MB Quart speakers for the interior of the car. Make sure you don't cut corners as far as wiring and amp kits go. For 4k if spent properly you could build a very nice multimedia/stereo system. If you go to a res[ectable shop that sells quality products such as rockford fosgate, PPI, JL Audio, Focal, Alpine, Clarion, names like this, they will be able to tell you just what you need pretty much. You could build a nice system with like a TV and DVD player or playstation for 4k easily. Find out what you need and buy it on Ebay. Much cheaper that way.

I am going to do some reasearch on ebay right now. Friend of mine has some kind of xm radio that you can watch movies on. That fucking thing alone cost him $750. But he bought it at some stero place and prolly could have got it for half the price on ebay. Thanks for the replies.

Excellent points. I totally forgot about the head units and mid and hi-range speakers.

As for PPI, it is a great choice.

I do not know about the whole DVD and LCD screen crap. That is a bit too fancy for a truck.

My s10 sitting downstairs has 6 jl 12's in it... it's overkill. I recommend just getting 2 high quality 10's in a custom enclosure (many dif. companies including JL even make fiberglass ones) with AMPLE power. I would also throw in a playstation for dvd's and vdo games w/ monitors here and there if you reaaaally have that kinda budget. Just overamplify everything so that you can run your amps at low volume, reducing THD by TONS. Go to a reputable shop to get everything done, nothing worse than a shop who tears up your headrests... btw, putting tv's in headrests of extended cab trucks... the lcd is too close to your face to be comfortable, so put it in the ceiling or center console for the rear seat.

Why 6-12" subs?

Do you compete?

yes, I have several db drag racing trophies, back in HS I essentially ran a local audio shop and as a result my truck was "sponsored" by the shop lol. I did pretty well. When I was 16 I won the national high school installer award from circuit city and got 5k to blow on Polk stuff... that was fun.

Sweet.... How does polk stack up when it comes to subs. i know that they are excellent as component systems.

only car audio shit i bought with my 5k was 6.5" components for the doors and rear pillars. I had 8" custom kickpanels though for sweet ass midbass up in the front so the 6's really didn't do much ne way. I never use polk stuff b/c it's overprice, underengineered and waaaay overhyped. I used my gift certificate on a pretty surround setup though... lol this was right when dolby digital / dts shit was just being introduced and I thought i was god, now i feel so inadequate.

I hate that ALL BASS crap pulling up beside me.
You expect it in maybe a ricer, but a Siverado ?

Go quality vs Boom IMO... Midrange and tweeters with a low
amp Sub..

Unless your Silverado is Slammed that is...
