trouble finding tire

why is it so hard to find a 500-600 pound tire? i have been to a cat place where they service the cats. they were like we dont ahve tires that big but i saw some sitting on a shelf outside but they were new. they told me call a place that specializes in tires. i call them they are like what size i tell them and they say ummm we sdont have tires taht big. it dont make sense they work on the things how can they not have tires that big. i am running low on ideas. anyone know where else to look for them. i live in northern va if anyone is from around there and knows any specific places taht would be great but all ideas are welcome. thanks

call some of the heavy civil construction companies in your area, they have to dispose of their old ones and this costs them money.

Im having the same problem.I live next to a stone quarry,and they told me that they dont have anything that SMALL.They said everything was over 1000lbs.Everything else Ive found is too small

just look up any tire place in your area, specifically the ones that deal in industrial size tires. i called around and found a place real close that has like 4 acres of old tires. i told him what size and said i could just come pick em out.. the first one i got, he said it was just one size bigger than what i wanted 550, so i took it, got it home and its 890lb new. but its worn down. now i got another one thats right at 600lb. if my gf actually likes this and sticks w/it i will go get a smaller one for her.

go out in the country and stop by a farmers house that looks like he would have such a thing, if he dont im sure he will know somebody who has.

I wish I could grab one of the zillions of tires from my friends farm, I have no place for it though. how ironic

You are in Virgina, farm country, I know b/c I'm from KY.

I would check, strip mines, coal mines, farmers, construction companies (yellow pages)... or even run an ad in the newspaper.

I wish I could go home to my coal-town and get one and fed ex it to ya!

hey king what size is your tire, like 26.5 20 ply or what. i did not know the weight changed taht much from new to used. i read somewhere they use the 26.5 20 ply for comp so that is what i was looking for. and how did u weigh such a big tire also since i know u weighed your stones how did you weigh those too. thanks for your hlep guys.

a 550 tire is suppose to be 23.5/25 16ply, my 600 is 23.5/25 12 ply. and yes they can vary alot by the wear of the tread. i took my truck to the place that scraps metal(u can use dumps scales) and weighed truck empty, went home put tire in truck and weighed again and then just subtracted 1st from 2nd. and i used regular scale to weigh my stones. just rolled them onto reg house scale.
