Tried MAX-OT for the first time . . .

I am starting out on the MAX-OT program as per Frackal's positive input on this board. However, I could not believe I was done in 40 minutes. I did not feel spent like I normally do when I workout. As a matter of fact, I felt that I should go hit the weights for another 45 minutes.

Anyone else have this problem?

I am going to stick it out for the 12 weeks, but I think it will be tough.

Any input would be appreciated.

Max-OT?? Is that from the site www.ast-ss.com? I looked into the Max-OT cardio portion, but am not familiar w/ the weight protion. The cardio idea sounds good in theory. 16 minutes of high intensity...basically you try to beat your previous distance every time you run.

No. I don't follow "Max OT", but the way I have always trained is almost the same thing. If you can't completelty destroy yourself in 40 minutes there is a problem. You need to lift heavier and push harder. I never do more than 10 sets, and am always between 3-7 reps, and when I leave the gym (30-45 min except leg days 1 hour) I am barely able to move, and totally spent. You gotta be tough to do it right, not saying you're not, but if you push hard enough you should be able to wear yourself out in just a few sets.

Example, last night I worked back. First was bent-over barbell rows. I did one warm up set of 10 with 225 (only warm up set). Then I put on 365 for 2 sets of 6 (I weigh 175 right now). I did my first set very strict, kept my back down, and held them in for a sqeeze at the top. 6 reps tooki about 40 seconds. If I would have left the gym after just that set, I still would have had a good workout, and I'd still be sore today. You need to dig deeper, and push harder on ever set. Go to failure every time, and push against that last rep for awhile. You do that, I assure you in 40 min you'll be spent.

Thanks! A little Karma for the Mischief town boy . . . Any other takers?

Oh yeah, if you get the opportunity, check out Skip Lacour's "Mass Machine II" training video (I think that's what it's called). It's a pretty good video for watching training (there's not really a lot of competition out there). After the first run I just mute it now and watch (he talks over the whole thing). Gives you a pretty good idea of the workout.

Personally, after reading things he's wrote, I expected him to push even harder, but then again in the video he's like 3 weeks out from a show, so I'm certain he's not near 100%, and he uses about 80% of the weight he shows in his journal during the "off season" (still alot though, strong guy). Worth a check out, especially if you know someone who has it. I'm pretty sure there used to be some clips on the House of Pain Ironwear website, along with some really good powerlifting clips. If someone here hasn't seen those, I'd recommend checking them out. (The 800 BP and the 600 for 3 are my favs).
