Treo vs Blackberry

Anyone have either? We're getting some Blackberries at work but I went to a Treo 700 demo last week. I think I'd rather have the Treo since I don't have a laptop. Pluses/minuses?

Basically the:
- BB is a phone with email and text messaging.
- Treo is a phone, camera, mp3 player, video player and mini laptop since it runs Windows Mobile OS.

We don't need all those features at work but I would use them myself.

I've played with both.. and have a friend with the Treo and that phone is just amazing. You can do all that the blackberry can and then some. If it weren't so bulky i'd get one myself... but I carry my phones in my pocket.

Treo seems superior in my exploration and the blackberry lawsuit sort of has spurred growth and development.

Treo you can surf the web like broadband with your phone. I post from my phone/pocket pc on ef before.

I went with an overseas model which was supposed to be the rollsroyce of pocket pcs/cellphones called Imate.

Lots of advantages, lots of disadvantages, it's like owning a british car b/c you are always tinkering with it.

But the clear distinction is the connectivity, rather than use the gprs or verizons network. I can connect wifi to any VPN network. But, there are problems and I use cingular.
Geez so many fucking things come up. I mean I have saved thousands on phone calls using the preloaded skype that US cellphone companies blocked to make it worth it twenty times over given how much I talk overseas.

But, Treo is better b/c of support and cell company support. The blackberry, well we'll have to wait and see. I think the sun is setting on that given what Treos can do or similar like my imate (imate=best given the features)

I have had two treos. The first one and the next model the 650. I wish I had the first one again (600). If I could find someone with one, I would buy it.

I have both too, and I only use my 600.

Make me an offer, AAP.

I've struggled with my 650 some, but it's been a decent phone. A few of the keys are going out now.

My biggest complaint is how I need to reboot it every 2-3 days (or even more frequently).

Two tacos and a Go Beaners flag.

There's a 24 hour taco place on SE 17th...you know where it is? all the ho's from Quarterdeck go there after work before they purchase their drugs.

Get the tacos there and it's a deal.

We got our BB 8700 at work today. I didn't really have time to play with it but it appears Cingular gave us phone w/o data instead of data w/o phone like we asked....idiots.

The blackberry is very simple to use. I really enjoy it. A friend has a treo and it is much more complicated. He says it isnt a great phone...but who buys cell phones to actually talk on anymore...

i have sprint's ppc 6700.

it's a really nice, high-tech phone...i had problems with my first one, but the one i have now is great.

it has the latest version of windows mobile, it can connect to any wireless network given a single (you don't always have to use sprint's service), it works as a modem, it has a high res camera, ms office mobile, full graphical support in IE, and a whole host of programs you can download and put on it.

it has come in very handy for school.

please tell me more about the using skype to make free calls etc. My monthly bill is over $150 to handle my usage

I got the Blackberry 8700c. It's alright so far. I don't like that it doesn't have any storage like a removable media card. I guess there's little need since you can't play music or video or edit files on it anyway. I don't like that I can only get new Exchange mail, but nothing in my box prior to setting it up. I can use the browser and webmail to do that but it's really small. The keyboard takes some getting used to but its better than a regular phone; probably not better than a Treo. The browser speed is not bad really. It'll do in a pinch for sure.

My last company job required me to carry a blackberry. Those things can run for weeks without recharging and the little amperage that comes from a USB port can recharge them. My i860 is nowhere as efficient. Also when they are wirelessly connected to a email system, I can read my emails anywhere...

Amazingly Cingular coverage is pretty good at home; my area has terrible cell coverage in general. The browser doesn't do frames but it's fine for Googling. If I were to use it for surfing a lot I would rather have a Treo because it has a Stylus so you could point and click.
Overall I like it more than I thought I would. I need to compare prices against the Treo.

-ugh - I think I just ran into a major gotcha. It looks like you have to use BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) to be able to view attachments. That’s like $1500 so this could be a deal breaker. Adding more email complexity for essentially two BB’s just ain’t happenin.
