trans fat

The Top 10 "Trans Fat" Foods:

1. Spreads. Margarine, for example...

2. Packaged Foods. Why you gotta bake from scratch! Cake mixes and Bisquick contain -- generally have several grams of trans fat per serving.

3. Soups. For example, ramen noodles and soup cups contain very high levels of trans fat. (and sodium, wow)

4. Fast Food. (makes me throw up but those french fries sure do taste good going down!)

5. Frozen Food. (again, convenience)
Even if the label says the product is low-fat, it can contain trans fat.

6. Baked Goods. (again, gotta DIY!)

7. Chips and Crackers. That crispy texture comes from shortening. Even reduced fat brands may contain trans fat.

8. Breakfast Food. Cereals and energy bars often contain trans fats, even if the labels claim to be “healthy.”

9. Cookies and Candy.

10. Toppings and Dips... meaning be careful w/Flavored coffees, nondairy creamers, whipped toppings, .and even salad dressings.

Notice that fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean meats and water aren’t on this top 10 worst foods list? Hmmmm…

Notice all these top 10 foods are heavily processed.... Hmmmm.

thinking about it ... in a normal day, how much of your overall intake comes out of a box or is pre-packaged?

does my tuna fish can count? ;)

trans fatty acids "are the devil"....

they blunt insulin sensitivity:
this effect also occurs with saturated fats- but may be over come with polyunsaturates
the effect from transfatty acids cannot be overcome with polyunsaturates

Hmmmm I'm good my tuna is in a can. LOL I think my biggest is salad dressing everything else I'm pretty careful with, don't want to hurt my kids in the future,I figure if they are use to eating healthy and know how to eat healthy they will do so when they get older. Or at least I hope so.

The only things that come in containers in my life are tuna & ANPB. The tuna I always rinse out too. The thing w/ tuna is probably the mercury....

oh shoot I forgot about the anpb. OOPS!

trans fatty acids "are the devil"....?

lately, i feel like it's the anpb that's the devil. i'm on day four without it....... wondering when the symptoms of withdrawal will kick in.

re- salad dressing. yes, that was an eye opener for me too. i'm going to try oil & vinegar instead of buying pre-made. have you tried Paul Newmans? I hear good stuff about it.

Salad dressing:

nat. PB
ginger, garlic, green onion, bit o' water or soy milk

Blend to 'dressing' consistency. Yum!

Will have to give it a try. Costs similiar to pb?

generally it runs about 50-100% more. Though IMO its worth the extra $$ and if peanut butter (or similar) is a staple of your diet, its a nice change of flavor.

mmmm great... something new to be addicted to! :chomp:

They ARE the devil, but the devil is so so good....

FYI, took my first set of updated pictures. (March 1st, then again last night on April 3rd).

What a difference those four weeks made!!! Woohoooo! I didn't think I'd see much progress, because the scale didn't move much and I hadn't had my body fat re-tested. Well, wow! I am so happy with the differences; I have definitely leaned out!! I must have been those last six days without ANPB... LOL.

ANything "hydrogenated" will have a lot of trans fat. Usually foods that are "reduced/low" fat....will also have added trans fatty acids to make up for the loss of other substances in the foods.

I won't eat it myself- and just don't understand feeding this stuff to your kids. If I ever have kids, I already feel bad for them. They'll never have anything 'cool' in their lunch box... No Lunchables for my babies!
