Need some help on links to or studies that come right out and say
that lifting is bad for kids say under the age of 10 to 12
"boys or girls". I have done a ton of searching and can not
find any real info that backs this up. Is it one of those
old myths that was started in the 50's and 60's and everyone
just takes it as hear say. Any links would be a great help.
Would also love to find links that may back up that excrises and lifting is good for the youth. I will check out all links posted
any help at all no matter how small the info will help.

thanks,

I'll try to find more if those don't help some, I gotta run out and do some stuff now though... I hope those DO help though... ;)

I remember that one. It was thought that if you weight trained at too young an age you would bend your bones.

Willyumyum thanks for the links that is just what I am looking for.
I found one other link that is postive about youths training
http://www.kidshealth.org/PageManager.jsp?dn=KidsHealth&lic=1&ps=107&cat_id=147&article_set=21624

it looks as training even as early as 7 years old can benfit increased bone density, strenghen ligaments and tendons as well as giving the child more self esteem. It needs to be said that the youth must be watched over at all times and not to lead them to heavy traing but more in the light weight to higher rep. range.

The reason I am putting so much time into this is to try and dispell several coaches I know about weight training and help a college iron brotha out with his term paper on this subject.

We want to make this as complete as possible.

again guys thanks for taking the time to post these links I will be checking them all out.

Interesting subject!! I was always under the belief that weight training to early was not good. It would cause problem with growth platues, etc. Friday night on Los Angeles news the station actually did a report with two doctors stating how in fact that was not the case and kids as early as 8 years old could benefit from weight training. They contend it actually helps the growth process..?? True or False I am not sure what to believe??
