tragedy strikes at mine again..

My husband and I were just talking about this issue this morning. I cannot imagine being the person that calls of the search ... has to be gut-wrenching to think you could possibly be abandoning people underground and signing their death sentence. Even IF all signs point to the fact that they are likely already dead.

Tough decision ... do you risk MORE lives to find the trapped miners who are likely already dead? Or do you exhaust everything to possibly save/recover these trapped people?

I couldn't make the choice, too difficult for me.

Very True.. I think human nature demands that we at least attempt a rescue. The idea of men buried alive doesn't sit well..just my 2 cents

how would you like to be the president of the US who has to decide whether or not to shoot down the next hijacked airliner before it gets used as a missle??

I have a lot of respect for the CEO who has been tirelessly leading the rescue effort of the trapped miners, but at some point he will have to call the search off if it gets too dangerous or hopeless.

Now this. Tough to be him right now.
I think that they DID call the search off when the rescue workers got killed.

why are not hardwired radio's a standard in each mine?

there probably is. . .but they don't work when the cable gets ripped off the wall and then crushed under a million tons of coal/rock during a cave in. . .

Couldn't do it. Yet another reason why I could never be president, nor would I want to be.

Heck, I wouldn't even want to be on a jury of a death penalty trial. I cannot imagine being the one who decides on who lives and who dies. Even is heinous cases, would still be troublesome for me to decide if someone dies - even if I think they deserve it.

Murphy should be driven out of the coal business. He is a piece of shit.

Having done some drilling in that area it isn't too surprising that the cave ins happen. That whole basin is a structural nightmare geologically speaking.

I've probably hung out with some of the guys in the mines there. My hat is always off to miners and the rescue workers, it's a hard life.

Cheers,
