Tracking Mail

Hi guys I'm new around here, been reading the board for a while now, and have found alot of good info.
My question, lets say your expecting a shipment from overseas that is trackable. For instance, it was mailed from the UK by airmail and is trackable from the royalmail website, how would one check on the status of the package after it hits US customs. Can you track it from the USPS website? Or is it lost after it hits US customs.

I'm sure you can just keep tracking it the same way you have been...Although I live in the US, so I've never been in your situation.

If you check it with the royalmail site it just says that it has been handed to the overseas postal service. I'm from the US also, sorry maybe I wasn't clear in my original post.

Now would I be able to just go to the USPS postal site and it should be trackable from there since it was given to them? I've tried but it says no record of that tracking number. I've done a search on it and it seems that people can see if it is still sitting in customs or if it has been passed on. How do they do that? Do you have to use a special mailing service?
