Totals to compete

Twitched

New member
What would be a goal to shoot for before one could start competing in the lowest level meets?

the 181 lb weightclass or maybe one lower..

The total you should aim for is whatever you can lift. Your first meet is more of a learning experience than anything else. Do not worry about where you will place, as competition is a whole new world.

If anyone laughs at you, they are only there as spectators. The other competitors will not only support your efforts, but will probably be able to provide advice that you may be in need of.

Don't worry about how you stack up against the opposition. The main thing is to do the best you can and try to break PR's. Once you get a few meets under your belt you can begin to concentrate on being more competitive. You will not be laughed at when you compete. If anything the spectators and other competitors will help you to achieve your goals. Powerlifting is more about beating the weight than beating the other guy.

I 100% agree.

Find a meet and do your best. You will have a great time and it will be a good learning experience.

I nor have i ever seen anyone laugh at what someone lifts. Every new competetor is always welcome. Trust me bro it aint cool to laugh at someone who isnt lifting as much as you. Just lift learn and have fun. Take notes.

I can compete in 181 or 198 depending on whether or not i wanna drop weight and my total is 1065lbs as of 1 month ago. So that should help you out.

I mean I total bench olympic bar 45lbs
squat 95
deads 115.

Damn i gotta work on my total.
:D

Dude whatever u lift is ur total don't be ashamed of it, I'm not.

I'd never put someone down for numbers, as long as they've worked hard and are giving it everything they have - that's what's important.

twitched,
just compete,..you will learn so much and will have the best time.k1401 is doing his first meet this saturday.he has busted his ass will do good.i have never seen someone laugh at another lifter at a meet.train hard and have fun....thats what it's all about.then you will be more concerned with PR's than anything.............
