6. Body Builders, Inc. (Akron, OH)
5. Bev Francis' Gold's Gym (Syosset, NY)

It's interesting that 6 of them are in the NY-NJ-CT tri-state area. It seems a little biased.

Gym80, reykjavik Iceland.

They are being specific to the U.S. but I see what you mean.

I used to be a member of Diamond when I lived walking distance from it and didn't have a car.

have any of you ever been to a military gym? Thats where I train and some of these guys are insane. many are seals, i think.

Obviously, whoever made that little list never heard of Coffee's Gym in Marietta.

You found used syringes in the bathroom trashcan and empty dbol blister paks in the parking lot.

I gurantee that some of the drugfree women there could kick Nicole Bass's ass.

West Side. Full of egomaniacs and assholes that lift big, but with $20K per year salaries with shit jobs for many of them. Not too mention there's a few coke heads amongst them there too...

I can motivate myself without all of the hyped up yelling and screaming. Rah Rah, bis boom bah!

FUCK THAT! Like any world Class Olympic Lifter I'll take silence to focus my mental game on the the lift I don't need West Side cheerleaders.

A VERY hardcore gym is Orange Ave Gym in Orlando FL. It may now be closed as of the last year or two, but it's old school style with similar equipment to what Arnold and the boys used back in the days. VERY, VERY intense gym!!!

Gold's in Venice and Vegas... yeah they aren't dugeons BUT, when you doing bi's next to Cutler and James - that's HARDCORE enough to me...

Well, I'll tell you it's not the LifeTime Fitness near Chicago...I squatted to the Jackson 5 the other day.

This was a listing for "hardcore gyms." Not "gyms frequented by successful, wealthy men" or "Nice Guys Finish First Gym."

When you can squat over 1000 lbs, let us know. This gym probably has more elite lifters than any other gym in the world. I guess that's not "hardcore" enough.

my basement, halifax, nova scotia, Canada

:)

seriously

If you just want to look at girls when your at the gym, you probably shouldn't be on this website. I think there's a good website for golfers or something.

I would love to build my own hardcore personal gym in my basement. A couple mirrors, heavy weights, few benches. What could be better?

i made that dream come true this year...it's awesome

b & w is a fucking hardcore dungeon. its dirty, stuffy, poorly lit, pain, screaming. You have to walk down these concrete stairs and this long concrete hallway to get to the gym floor. The sounds coming from reminded me of the mines in "Temple of Doom". I would train there except for the pain in the ass drive and scheduling probs.

What about the orignal powerhouse in detroit... maybe the gym is not hardcore but the area is.... 7 mile Detroit baby

Gold's in Venice, California and MedRX in Costa Mesa, California

who ever made that list may not know what state has the most Pro bodybuilders and serious gyms.

Really looks like they don't believe anything important exist West of the Hudson

This is from the Getbig.com interview of Bob Chicherillo. He mentions what Gold's Venice has become:

- You train at Gold's of Venice, the mecca! Has anything changed lately?

Well, Gold's Venice is still Gold's Venice. It still has that aura about it; there is always a lot of things going on there; the energy there is very high. Those are the main reasons I like it there. It has changed a little over the last 5 years. When Gold's Venice changed hands, the new owners didn't have that much of an interest in bodybuilding. It is kind of an irony because Gold's Venice, as anyone knows, is the mecca of bodybuilding. And that place was founded on bodybuilding, and is a major part of history of bodybuilding. But they haven't kept up with the upkeep. The pictures on the walls, the pros, the winner of the Nationals and the USA's, stopped being updated around 1998. My picture isn't on there still.
It's funny because I remember one time just hoping and praying that one day my picture will be on that wall prior to me turning pro, and then finally I did it, and they are not doing that anymore. So I still don't have that picture on the wall at Gold's. Little things like that have been lost, that Gold's Venice is still known for bodybuilding. People still go there from all over the country who come there to see pro bodybuilders. They have made some changes. They have taken out a lot of equipment, some old good equipment which I wasn't really too pleased with. It is strange when a corporation runs Gold's Gym of Venice, because some of these decisions are made in New York City, and some of the people who make these decisions have never been in a gym before. It is kind of frustrating. One thing I did was to offer my services free of charge as a consultant, on what equipment to bring in there, or changing the gym around and things like that. I think it has helped a bit, and we made some changes with the format of the gym. I would hate to see a place like Gold's of Venice turn into a 24 Hour Fitness. This is our place.

I train at my local YMCA (just not in the league yet.) but in the Worcester, Ma area, Bay State Gym was the most hardcore to go to. It's the first gym that prison inmates sign up for when they get out. It's not pretty, used to be 24/7/365 until recently, and has a large room just for legs called 'Quad City'. No music, you want it, bring your own. I go there when my local Y is closed and love it, just too intimidating for me for all the time.

I've heard of that place! The show American Muscle had aired a competition years ago with them versus another gym in the area. It was Tug of War with the strongest members of each gym at some park or beach. I wonder if that still do that.
