too much sleep

what is to much sleep??? i tried that going to bed early and seeing when you wake you wake up thing. well 3 nights in a row i have had over 12 hours and my alarm still woke me. i have slept for 24 hours strait before but that was awhile ago. i ahve been gettitng 9-10 hours regualry for months. lately i was reading about finding out how much sleep you need so i tried it. this over 12 hour thing seems strange does anyone have a clue what may be up???:confused:
 
Yep, something is def wrong there. Could be many things...depression, illness, dehydration, maybe low thyriod (?). My mother would take naps at lunch and end up sleeping for three hours. Found out later she had mono (once she was just about well).
 
i had mono back in december but that was a long time ago. hmm depression thyroid all good ideas i will have to look into this.
 
when i sleep i sleep....last night i slept for like 12 hours, the night before for like 13 hours. i dont care, i have nothing better to do on wed and thursday mornings. and when im bored im either on here or sleeping. i think sleeping is a very worthwhile way to spend your free time.
 
I feel like I am waisting my life if I'm sleeping more than 7-8 hours.

I always set my alarm even if I have nothing that I'm meant to be doing.
 
i slept for 18 hours the other day. I consistently sleep for 12-14 hours being as how I have nothing to do at the time being. I'm just waiting to leave for the Air Force and have no job or school. Pretty much nothing to do all day while everyone else is doing their daily activities. Very relaxing.
 
Damn! I WISH I could get a decent 8 hours of sleep a night! This past Wednesday, I got up at 4:30 AM and didn't hit the sack until 1:30 the following morning...only to wake up today at 6 AM and, well...it's almost midnight! I gotta get some shut eye!:insane:
 
I find it hard to believe that there could ever be such a thing as too much sleep. That's almost like too much money. Is that possible? If you are really worried about it, have a kid.

im with you on this........... there just isnt enough hours in the day to get enough sleep.

i read in some medical journal that sleeping late and waking up late the following afternoon isn't supposed to be good for you (example, getting to sleep at 3am and waking up at 2pm). ill try to look for the article and post it.
 
i wonder how that could be, id think the time you go to bed and wake up is all relative. i mean thats 11 hours right. what the difference if i go to sleep at 10pm, and wake up at 11am, as opposed to 3am and 2 pm.
 
I would be happy to get 8 a night. I usually am forced to work on 6 or less. From what I understand 8 - 10 is considered optimal. I think however that it is an issue of what your personal needs are. If you are healthy and you know it you should have a pretty good understanding of what you need for sleep.

If you are needing more than you believe is necessary and waking up tired after extended rest periods I would recomend having a lab panel done by your doctor to check for common issues that may casue you to sleep more than is necessary. Frequently we do not know what is wrong with us because we do not take a pro-active approach to health care.

Good luck with the sleep thing though. If you want send some of the extra my way. I think I could use it.
