Too bad Marilyn Manson is such a freak.

Because I like his music and even his opinions. The guy is incredibly intelligent believe it or not. Too bad he looks like a total freak. Anyone else like his music? There is a song on his mechanical animals CD called "disassociative" that is really cool. I met him back when the band was called marilyn manson and the spooky kids and he was totally normal(well except for how he looks). I was introduced to his dad who was this older guy(late fifties maybe older) with whiteish hair and a suit. He was holding a camcorder. The only odd thing about the guy was he had a baseball cap that said " FUCK OFF".

I think what he did was pure genius. Attracted the rebelious kids and pissed off the parents. He was a media whore but he knew how to make money. He wears normal clothes when off stage. Some people took him a little too seriously and actually thought he was some sort of leader against christianity and shit. He's a business man than makes great music. I went to one of their concerts when I was 16. Badass concert

I totally agree. He is a rich man. I agree with the majority of what he is saying. He is dead on about how fucked our culture is right now. His essays are pretty interesting as well.

What's really amusing abotu him is that his views on gun control and violence are almost IDENTICAL--eerily so--to Rush Limbaugh's: [paraphrased] "Gun laws don't stop criminals. Look how many social and legal controls are on guns already, and criminals have no intention of abiding them. The criminally-minded will persist regardless of whatever controls you try to impose on them, so punishment is the deterrance, and proper parenting."

Now, I don't necessarily agree with this myself ("It's the parents' job!" is a favorite shoulder-shrug of Hollywood celebrities who spew all sorts of filth and then deny any responsibility for their effects on youth), but it's funny to hear how similar the rhetoric is. Manson's interview in the Michael Moore film "Bowling for Columbine" really lays that out.

Frankly, I was surprised at Manson's cowardice in this issue. He pats himself on the back for being an Antichrist Superstar and attracting so many legions of fans who follow him and endow him with power, and he injects them with a predictable routine of grisly hatred, violence, and nihilism...then when two of them express the most extreme representation of what Manson's preaching (destruction of the mainstream establishment, violence as problem-solving, arrogant cruelty, antisocial psychosis) he suddenly throws up his hands and lamely defends, "Huh? They don't have anything to do with MY message!" I would at least have respected the honesty of his saying, "Damned right! Maybe now you'll take these kids--and me--seriously!"

It would have been sick, but honest. His ducking the situation is a betrayal of his own career message.

Oh, and before you all jump on me as a "hater," I saw him with NIN.

I am similiarly torn politically. I am a huge pro-gun nut,pro-abortion and pro-decriminalization(drugs)-so where does that put me? I think both the democrats and republicans are assholes but I agree with them on certain issues. Manson's effect on the youth cannot be all that much really in comparison to say Tupac or Eminem. Think how many kids out there look like Eminem.

finally some people have good taste

I agree 100%. I been a huge Manson fan since he started in '93 when they were called " The Spooky Kids". He came in with no make up just white contacts with leather pants with "666" written all over em. Besides Pantera and System of a down, Manson is my fav. artist. His lyrics and just watching how he responds in interviews is just phenominal. He's the most laid back guy I've ever met as well. Most of the guys in the band don't talk too much but Manson was cool as shit. I had no idea who they were and saw and met em and the guy is a fucking genius whether people wanna label him freak, fag or whatever. If you listen t o all his albums, each one has a different sound and he's always changing his style, and sound throughout each album. As far as Mechanical Animals , his glam phase I gotta pick "Great Big White World, SPeed of Pain and Last Day on Earth" as the top best songs. I still think Antichrist Superstar is his best album, but I love em all. He puts on the best shows, and always does something shocking and entertaining. Coolest thing I saw was new years eve '96 here in dallas he took the red wine bottle and smashed it on his chest and got on the podium and shredded the fuck out of the mormon bible during the "antichrist superstar" song. The only thing I disagree on that he has done in the past was setting the American flag on fire, but he does alot of those things to make people think, and question how much value certain things mean to people. All that bullshit people say about him being a minister of the church of satan, killing or raping animals or being on the Wonder Years is total bullshit. People who like or dislike him should read his autobiography, and watch his new DVD, or Dead to the World video. I gotta give him props too cuz the guy has nailed Jenna Jameson, Traci Lords, Rose Mcgowan and now he's been with Dita for a long time who is a fetish model and very beautiful. Well that's all I gotta say. Manson rulz, Masterpiece

the last album is his best. not one of the songs in it sucked. he needs to get off his anorexic ass and come out with a new album

I agree, its the best next to AntiChrist Superstar. Do you love your God?Guns?Government?-I love that song. He is working on the new album (The Golden Age of the Grotesque) now. It should be out soon. I am sure it will rock. Marilyn is my fav singer for sure. You should check out his book and the new DVD - its pretty cool. If you've never seen them live, they are freaks! Its entertaining.

"he(Manson) is an insult to my Intelligence." -Glen Benton of Deicide.

I liked Manson, back when I was 12. Then when I was 16 I found myself heavily indulged in weed and Death Metal and haven't looked back yet.

And yes, he WAS a Reverend in the CoS. I've been a member for going on 6 years now I should know. He quit after his whole SatanicScare era got old.

Well I have met both Marilyn and Glen (from Deicide) and I can tell you that Manson's intelligence FAR surpases Glen's. I hope he said that as joke actually because otherwise he really made an ass of himself. Maybe he is just really jelous because Manson is a huge rock star. As for Manson's involvement with COS it is mostly because he met Anton LeVey. I think Manson agree's with allot of the doctrine but differs in their drive to manipulate people.

Riight. Glen blows that fucker away with Intelligence on Satanism as well as musical ability. Manson only did the whole Satanism bit for shock value. Fuckin' Glen LIVES IT.

Has Glen hung out with or even ever met the creator of the COS? Manson has. Wow, I am impressed with a guy who LIVES satanism. haha.

I can see you equate technical musical ability with talent. Death metalers never like anything but death metal. So it goes.

Why would he want to? There are several variations of Satanism. Modern/LaVeyan is just one aspect. Glen is a Traditional Satanist. Manson is neither. He's just a guy who hopped on the bandwagon to be scary.

And yes, I do equate ability with talent. Ya got it, or ya don't. Glen and Deicide got it. And I don't "only like Death Metal." I also love Black Metal, "epic power" Metal, Thrash, Heavy, speed, doom, and progressive metal. Like I said, I liked Manson when I was a pissed off kid. Then I disovered the real shit MTV wasn't pushing down everyones throats.

You must have a differant MTV. I cant recall seeing much Marilyn Manson on MTV.

No offense but "traditional" satanism is rediculous. You might as well be a vampire while your at it.

He was all over MTV. Fuckin' "Sweet Dreams" was played 10 times a day, and "Dope Show" about 20.

Personally I have no problem with Trad Satanists.

if your into manson, you should check out some of his older shit. there is an album called "portrait of an american family", its a little different than what he has come out with in the last few years, but its kick ass, and i still listen to it all the time. there are also two singles off the album, "lunchbox", and "get your gunn", check those three out if your a fan of his and have not heard them yet.

Yeah I first met him when he was in Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. I used to see them play in Florida quite often back when only 200-300 people would show up. They always had the look and sound of a band that was not going to stay local.
