Tommy Morrison: For some reason it didn’t surprise me, I knew I was in a sport where it could be transmitted. I fought a guy in 1989 that died of AIDS and I found out about that about six months after I fought him. I went back and watched the fight and he bled all over me.

Who's in your avi?

Thanks Dial, I knew he cancelled his contract with Tyson in 96 however I never knew it was for that.Dial_tone said:Benny Henderson Jr.: You tested positive for HIV in 1996 and retired from the sport. What was your first thought when you were told you were a carrier of the virus?
JumpBallWinner said:I think he was a womanizer and a partier. I read an article about him a few years ago in ESPN mag about what great shape he's in now that he has access to steriods to treat him for the disease. They had a picture of him with his shirt off and his abs looked better than they did when he was a boxer. He talked about how he heard Stallone was going to do a Rocky 6 ( and this was like four years ago) and that he hoped he'd get a call to be in it since he was still the champion at the end of 5. Guess that didn't work out for him. If you have the mega money for the treatment, you can pretty much beat that disease now. Look at Magic Johnson. It's good to know it's possible. It'd be even better if it were possible for everyone.
Agreed. Morrison had signed a 38 million dollar contract with Don King in 95 I believe and when he tested positive they revoked his boxing license. He never collected all of the winnings and only pocketed a small percentage.PICK3 said:Magic has an assload more money than Morrison.
Thanks for the info300lbs of get down said:Tommy pocketed $7 million when he was forced to retire. He keeps a home in outside of Fayetteville, AR. I have run into him several times in the last few years. Tommy's cousin is my martial instructor. Although he is pretty much flat broke after run-ins with ex-wives and rec drugs. Tommy is trying to put together a group of fighters to try and train and fight overseas. Haven't heard much in the last month. He is in awesome shape...training everyday.

Understandable. I get a lot of blood on my at work. But u can't get it like that. No worries.p0ink said:that's one thing that has always scared me with training in MMA. i live in a college town where there is a lot of fucking and drug use going around, so how do i know the person who is bleeding on me doesn't have aids?

Yep. U got the right idea. Plus, it's a different job in the military. A lot of men I work with are also medical peeps in the military.p0ink said:that's why i dont use my EMT certification - it's not worth $9/hour to deal with HIV positive and hep c infected crackheads, hookers, and pimps.
i only play medic in the military setting, since at least we get regular blood tests and drug screenings.

I don't worry about the HIV or Hep C. Those are harder to get. I worry BIG TYME about stuff like TB. U can catch that by walking into the wrong room.
Because the loading dose is so high. I've seen 20-25 bloody needle sticks and 2 nasty scalpel cuts with HIV pos pt's and not one person contracted it. Hep C is easier but only slightly.p0ink said:how can you not worry about hiv or hep c? people are always bleeding all over the fucking place.
i wouldnt even work on an infant if i didn't have gloves. i am very paranoid about getting shit from people i dont know.

myway said:True. I have had bood on my arms, clothes... even my face. I just try to keep it out of my eyes. Even then, chances of getting it are slim.

They are also the most crazy/weird/disturbed folks around. Granted, the volunteers who ride rescue are much worse, and there are a few sane EMT's (there are virtually ZERO sane volunteer squad members) but there are still alot of very unusual EMT's out there. Nurses are almost as bad!Testosterone boy said:EMTs are about the most underpaid profession around.
Hours suck, mondo stress, health risks. Pay = the suck.
Besides the best thing you can do is likely "throw and go" instead of playing doc like some paramedics try.
