The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are probably the two most popular outside of LOTR and The Hobbit. The Silmarillion is the history of middle-earth, pre-hobbit stuff. Unfinished Tales is a collection of Tolkiens's material that his son, Christopher Tolkien, put together.
