To much crap at the gym

Hi all I'm new to the boards and was looking for some adice. Actually I have been lurking here for sometime now and finally decided to register. Learned a lot since I have been here and there are a lot of helpful knowlegeable people here. I have a question though. I have been working out at home seriously for the last 6 months and felt I have progressed enough to join a gym for the aspect of more weights and better equipment. I hate working out at home in the sense of the motivation factor. In other words its almost impossible but I managed to last 6 months. Now I have read countless threads about the gyms you guys go to and everything that you see and all of the members you see do stupid things and a lot of it is hilarious. I'm wondering how you guys manage to stay so intense with all of that bullshit going on around you? Granted working out at home sucks in comparison to the gym in my opinion but at least there are no assholes around breaking your concentration. I'm sure most if not all of you guys are intense and hardcore which also doesn't make it easy for newbies such as myself who are first timers and aren't that large yet or can't lift tons. Just seeking some feedback before I decide to throw away more money on subpar equipment or is it worth joing a gym? Thanks.

bro, working out at the gym becomes an addiction. at first it is scary cause you aren't used to working out with other people around and you think that they are all looking at you. the truth is everyone looks at every to see what they do. join a gym, it will become a second home to you. just remember, everyone in there is there for the same reason, to look good and feel good. not to loook down on other people. JOIN. you won't be disappointed.

Plus (to add to what micromko said) all the goofy crap you see isn't constant. It's things you notice when going to get a drink or something. The overwheming number of people in a hardcore gym are serious about what they are doing and can be a great source of advice and knowledge. The idiots are usually a small handful and provide some mild entertainment between sets!!!

Not many hoochies at Panthers, West Drayton, UK......

I don't give a shit whether people are looking at me.. Besides, I am looking at them - to see what they do. Sometimes you can learn something.

Wish they would sort out the music though - its crap.

Joining a gym can be intimidating and uncomfortable at first, but
after a while, you will be addicted and happy that you made the switch.:)

I agree 100%. When I find that my workout is getting boring or stale, I merely look around the gym at others and pick up some of their routine.

You can easily tell who knows their stuff and who doesn't.

I don't give a shit how much weight somebody lifts or how big they are. Everyone has to start somewhere. If you are intense and dedicated to your lifts, you'll be respected at a good gym. I respect the little guys with heart more than the big dudes with no form and ego problems. Join a good gym bro, and don't worry about anything except how you're going to manage all the girls numbers after you grow like a madman.:)

If you are serious, have access to basic equipment, know how to productively train and are motivated you will grow wether you train at home or in a gym.

You don't need much equipment to become big and strong: A power rack, an olympic weightlifting set, a sturdy bench at that's it. Squat, deadlift, chin, bench presses, overhead presses, dips and some curls are all the exercices you need to get very big and very strong.
