to GABA or not to GABA

Hey guys, been reading alot about GABA lately, and how it affects the body.

Since it stimulates Growth Hormone i was thinking about taking this...

Im 19. 185 lbs. I was overweight and 5'11. After learning nutrition, bulking diet, etc, i have put on a whole inch(plus im young and still growing)

now i have probably "slowed" down growing over the years and this healthy lifestyle definately had something to do with me growing an inch.

NOW since im young i would love to use my "growing" abilities to become taller. i would love 6'1 or 6'2. I am growing daily, im currently bulking up.

So calories/nutrients/ and everything is very balanced.

Also like that GABA helps sleep.
 
Save your money

You're not going to add inches to your height by taking an OTC product. Spend the money on good food and some protein powder. Eat healthy and if you were going to be 6'1, then you will
 
LOL. GABA was one of the first supplements I tried. I used to take the old AST Research GABA back when I was I think 15 or 16. (Told my father it was a vitamin that was supposed to be really good for you :)) You take it before bedtime. I remember waking up every morning for the next few weeks expecting to see bigger muscles or fat loss. Nothing happened. Some people say they get a better sleep, but I never noticed anything.

lol @ the vitamins, look like we all did that huh!

I know im not going to pack on LBS on muscle and drop %'s off my BF, i was just wondering, since i am young and "prime" if adding the GABA would be beneficial. Maybe my Growth Hormones needed a pick me up lol.

I understand they are no miracle drug! Thanks for the input!
 
Sure it works if your using it for the right reasons ... don't expect any leaps and bounds in Gh release from it though .

You need to take a wack of the stuff to even see any sleep benifits .. 5 grams min might get you a bit of a rush 15 minutes later but depending on body size and weight you might need more ... for the price of those doses daily it surpasses steriod treatments and benifit ratios excepted my most
 
If it works at all it is like boxer says, the doseage is highly cost prohibitive. Another of the overhyped, overpromoted supplements.
 
Here's some reviews on it from other people. 9/10 people most likely won't see any changes in physical appearance, (and other guy is seeing things), but if you have trouble sleeping it may help. Probably no better than Benadryl though.

Valerian root on an empty stomach, however, now that stuff knocks me out in about 5-10 minutes, The effects, however are fast and if I'm not really going to sleep, the effects seem to wear off after about 10-15 minutes. So, I suggest trying Valerian root if you are having trouble sleeping, not gaba."

"I have dealt with poor sleep since my teens and this stuff rocks. I sleep great and wake up in the same spot I layed down. I use to wake up when my wife moved around in the bed and now the wall could blow out of the house and I'd never notice. Better workouts, productive in the office and in a great mood all the time."

"You get a deeper sleep on it and helps me fall asleep faster but there's no way this increases test,hormones,etc like in theory it might. For the deep sleep part its worth it."
 
Valerian root is dirt cheap and works! I can personally attest to this, being a chronic insomniac for years. They make a tea you can drink, or you can buy capsules.

They also make a nice "blend" that addresses the different issues of sleep, i.e...falling asleep fast, staying asleep, etc. that includes valerian, skullcap, etc.
 
LOL. I use Valerian a lot if I can't sleep. Works great...And hands down the worst smelling herb ever. :) Like age old provolone cheese.

Where can you buy this? Like Vitamin Shoppe (or similar) ?

How do you feel the next day after taking? Groggy? Tired? etc...

I JUST PICKED up a bottle of it. 750mg each capsule. 90 caps. Its recommended dosage so far for induced sleep is 2mg. So 3 caps is perfect.

I just havnt had good sleeps lately and i got my hands on some ambien and they worked great. i wouldnt say i am insomniac, i just toss and turn alot so i need a PEACEFUL/RESTFULL Sleep.

Ill let you know how i feel tommarow after i use it tonight.

Thank you :) I mean I can take a bottle of melatonin & not get tired :) But try to avoid rxn drugs ... so I was just wonderin' :) Thank you mm , so helpful ;)
 
Wow Tylenol PM usually knocks me out in 15 minutes! :sleeping: Melatonin I can take before a cardio workout and it doesn't put me to sleep either. I've yet to try 5HT. Heard mixed things about that being great for sleep and as an overall relaxer.

MM107, how did you like the smell of those Valerian caps? LOL. I don't know if all the brands are as bad, but the one's I got from GNC were awful. :sick:
 
alex: I still went with the GABA, my damn vshoppe store was all out of Valerian root. Wierd, but they had the GABA on sale, BUT if it dont work Valerian is the next try. I like the blends up top, might pick them up.

I will try my GABA tonight! Hopefully i have VIVID Dreams!
 
LOL. The GABA I used was the powder kind. Again this was when I was 16. My mother woke up the next morning and found white powder on the kitchen counter and went nuts. "Are you taking drugs! What are you trying to do to yourself !?!" All over a supplement. Glad I'm not a kid anymore. :)

Sorry for the jack but that is too funny ... I have Protein powder on my counter all too OFTEN, right next to the scale, when I sifter it in my Gatorade... May be on the paper plate I use (dont have a funnel yet) and it cracks me up thinkin' of my old friends , the old "yeho" crew, and how they would wet their pants if they saw it lol

I leave it around to mess with family & friends sometimes too ... :p

LOL. You should leave a credit card right next to the powder and scale next time.

I always wanted to put my creatine in a ziplock back and leave it on my dresser for her to find. :)

LMAO at all of you, i got caught with Creatine in a Ziplock when i was 14. I gave the bottle to my boy (charged him the bigger half) and kept mine stashed away.

BAD part is, i HID the baggie because my mom was against shit like that, so lets say she found that and fliped her lid. Too bad i went along like it was yayo for a couple minutes(bet that is what really made her flip)

about the GABBA, i slept like a baby last night. Didnt even roll over. i know i didnt move since i didnt get up to put covers on, wich i always do.

No crazy vivid dreams yet

Also doesnt PUT me to sleep it seems to make my sleep better, i have notice i do not toss/turn as much and i do not wake up as much.

I would recommend a try, i wouldnt buy a 50$ supply unless u know it works for you!

I need to try the Valerian root and gabba,I know the melatonin dosent do jack for me.I wake up 1-3 times a night and get up and get a bite to eat.
 
phenibut knocks me out, I don't know that I would recommend taking it on a regular basis though. I hear there's a pretty steep tolerance build up if taken regularly. It's actually a derivative of GABA, but i've read much better feedback from it.

It was developed in Russia, and there it has been used clinically since the 1960's for a range of purposes. Phenibut has both nootropic and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties, and it is commonly compared to diazepam (Valium), baclofen, and piracetam, and it has similarities to and differences from all of these substances"

If your looking for vivid dreams then you might want to try 5-htp, i've definitely had some cool dreams after taking it, but sometimes they're vivid nightmares, which aren't a whole lot of fun.
 
i might go pick all these ups so i can cycle them...

the phenibut sounds interesting.

I want my dreams back, i never really dream anymore. Even with the GABBA i took 4 taps (3g) i had a very good sleep, just cant remember my dreams.

So 5tp is better for dreams huh! it also helps with ADD and anxiety i believe ive read.
