Hi

Has anyone built his own leg press? I know you can buy good affordable ones in the states but this is not the case in the place I live.

Yeah itd be a hell of a lot easier as well. I imagine you could get a welder to throw something together for you fairly cheap.

i wouldnt even buy a leg press. too specific. a power rack would be a much better investment, its not so specific. you can use it for nearly anything.

What you say is perfectly right for a hardcore lifter but I don't think I'm that kind. I have too many troubles with my lower back. For example, I really can't do 100 lbs bent over rows without real pain in my back. I have to lay my chest on something in order to relieve some of the pressure from the lumbar area. It's been that way for years.

So I'm looking for a friendly legs exercice. I also already have a smith machine but I know from experience that a leg press is the most suitable equipment for me right now.

Unless u build it off of someone elses specs i don't really see how having a put together contraption is going to be safer then a power rack...if u build it well and sturdy...if u don't build it well and your 200,300,400, etc... pounds comes down on you....well..that's not really good for your lower back either.

Sebass67 is right on the money...

plus, shouldn't you consider fixing your "lower back problems"?

since i've started deadlifting and oly back squatting, my back has never been better

exactly. fix up those lower back problems if they can be rehabbed and you're in business. a couple steps back for a bit, will give you tons of room to run forward in this case. leg presses are good, but why mask a weakness or work around it, when you can actually fix it and be stronger and more functional? :)

i say this without trying to sound facetious, but squats arent for the hardcore. Hardcore people do them, and it can be hardcore, but its about the most functional movement you can do to improve your life... ;)
