im just wondering of some good online sites to learn strategy or books to read, i play on yahoo alot andthis has helped me tremendously to become an above average player but i want to become really good, and i have patience, so looking for where to start.......

sofageorge y is yahoo the bottom of the barrell, there is a large number of players and ratings to know how good of a player u r playing vs, what makes the other sites better?, not arguing with u just trying to find out y haha thx

also u asked my rating, i have never been in a tournament or nething so i dont have like a national established raking or something like that if ur talking about that, but on yahoo i am aroudn a 1500 right now

any sites or books u konw to read or go to, to learn strategy or can i just depend on playing to get better

anyone heard about kasparov and blue jr?

I've been following the games. Not very interesting yet.

Re why is Yahoo slumming it...? You have many many players there. Most are idiots. If you are 1500 on Yahoo... you are playing at about the 1200 level on a competative site.

FICS and ICC draw a more dedicated crowd.

geez i'm pretty shitty then. ~1400 right now on yahoo, but getting better

buy the "chessmaster" for the pc. I think they are up to chessmaster 10,000 now. I have one and it's a really good tool for learning to play chess from beginner to master.

i actually teach the chess club at the boys club once a week for competion against other after school programs. i have 1 good player out of 10.

I think it makes the game less fun the better you get. once you start memorizing moves, and counter moves, it's just not as much fun as if you were just thinking for a few sec and moving.

i played some guy on yahoo for a few hours. he had everything memorized, he would think like 50 moved ahead Lol
