Tkd...help Meeeeee...

Alright, I've done a lot more research and I've decided to take on the "TKD" approach (seems more plausible/effective than straight keto for 8 more weeks). Couple quick questions regarding TKD:

1) When do I take my pre-workout carbohydrates, 30 min before, 15 min before? (Sweettarts...yumm :p )

2) Do I have to take post-workout carbohydrates (I'd rather not, seeing how I'd like to take in as little as necessary).

3) If I'm going to take ALA with these carb's; when should I take the ALA and how much (I was thinking 500mg 15 minutes before I take the pre-workout carbs).

Thanks in advance...

Try 20 min before actually starting your first set. Try 25g. You could try mixing some glycerine and whey into your drink too. Glycerine will really hydrate you and whey will reduce catabolism further.

Nope. In fact, I would suggest not. If you feel you can handle it and you have had a hard workout, try taking another 25g of carbohydrate with some ALA or vanadyl (although some people say vanadyl kicks them out of ketosis).

Don't take ALA with pre-workout carbs. Insulin will be suppressed during your workout and all of the carbs will be used during your workout anyway. Taking ALA may even reduce some of the anticatabolic effects of pre-workout carbs. You can take ALA post-workout if you want. If you do take ALA, have some carbs on hand in case you begin feeling dizzy (hypoglycemic).

Are these things covered in Mr. X's TKD manual? I forgot if they were.

Plornive: Thanks (again) for all the help.

I didn't come across these "things"...if they were in there...my apologies for rehashing. Thanks again.

When I wrote the manual (TKD), ALA was not a popular thing, so it's left out; plus I strongly disagree w/ using ALA when on a Ketonic diet due to the health risks.

1)15min before the workout is real close, and probably will work fine...make sure the carbs are NOT fructose, for the last thing you want to do is refill liver glycogen; that would defeat the purpose of the diet
2)No post workout carbs....it's just too risky, unless you are EXPERIENCED in using short-acting insulin, which I am sure you are not
3)Cut out the ALA, you'll be fine

Out of curiosity, why? I am planning a TKD and was planning on using ALA. Thanks. Peace.
