For those that are seeking LEO jobs. Good read:
tips:
BE HONEST!!! if you have ever taken a PEN home from your office, and they ask you hav you ever stolen anything.... Your answer is YES! then EXPLAIN it to the Poligrapher. Trust me they have heard it all. People say to bend the truth... DONT! if yyou smoked weed for a year, DONT say you experimented with it once or twice. tell them. I smoked weed for about a year, but I quit in 200X. if they have gotten you to the Poly stage chances are they kinda like you so far. they wil try to work with you as long as YOU ARE 100% HONEST! I simply cannot stress that enough.
Relax, they will not shoot you for answers they dont like. when you walk in and he askes you are you nervous. tell him yes. Then he asks why are you gong to try to lie? simply answer him honestly.... No, I just dont always trust machines. He will then say well this is calibrated and in good working order. answer back so was my car, a 3000gt, at least it was the minute before it spun a bearing and I had to take it to the shop to have it fixxed. This does two things, explains your nervousnes in a realistic and believable way, adn shows that you arent really worried about the test as you can stilll joke a bit with out going overboard.
Breath. For the love of god, few things will spike the test like fucking up your breathing. Picture a candle burning in your mind. There is NOTHING but the candle flame against blackness. that is all that exists, the perfect flame. you feel nothing. you are floating in perfect blackness looking at this flame. you can hear his voice, adn you answer, but all you see is the flame. Sit back in the chair, ignore the strapps around your chest, ignore the clips on your fingers, just see the flame, hear his voice and answer. dont think about your answer. he already asked you the question and alrady knows what you are going to say, dont think, just answer. speak slowly and calmly. breath. see the flame.
Dont Fidgit. there is a sensor under your butt, and under your feet. it detecs movement. when you lie, or even stretch the truth, you tend to twitch. sit calmly and see the flame.
when you lie, your eyes tend to drift slightly up and left. its subconcious. dont worry, you cant really control it ecept by NOT LYING! on some of the Polys that I have to take there is a damn eyepiece that tracks that. I doubt they have one for a simple local Police exam, but if it is there, let your vision blur. donnt look at anything. remember the Flame? imagine it. see it.
I know a lot of this sounds hokie and like a load of crap, but trust me. it is a quick guide for some of the ways people beat them. I am not telling you how to beat it, because that would endanger you as far as failing, (remember the question do you intend to try to defraud this test today?) and would violate oaths I have had t take. I am simpe giving you advise on how to prepare your self mentally and psycologically. They cannot burn you for anything said in a poly. so for the love of god BE HONEST. COMPLETELY TOTALLY 100% HONEST.
