does anyone have any tips for speaking to a large group of people?

i volunteered to do a speech on the history of my unit for my younger sisters class since they are doing a ww1 unit and i didnt know how many people would be attending and it turns out about 40 and im totally unprepaired

anyone got any tips for me to get through this smoothly without being a stuttering retard

thanks guys

I'm not fond of public speaking either. Yet to help, you must be prepared, and know what you're talking about.

i have finished my speech and know alot about the subject i just hate being infront of people with all eyes on me

If you know the material then you shouldn't be nervous. Don't look at anyone in particular when you're talking because that may give you a fright. Just scan the room back and forth, left to right, but don't make eye contact with anyone for too long.

There was an awesome thread here a little while ago about public speaking - I can't find it!!!!! Does anyone remember who started the thread???

1) KNOW YOUR SHIT INSIDE OUT.

2) REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE DOING THEM A FAVOR.

3) ACT LIKE YOU OWN THE PLACE.

speak firmly, dont let yourself mumble, dont look down into the note carsd etc and try and make em bullet points

try practicing in a smaller group of people first like for example go to the park where all the kids play.......and use the previous advice from pushing_fe:D

thanks for all the help guys,im pretty sure it will be alright,im confident in my material and everything else

so thanks guys

Don't use not cards, try not to use notes.

A good speaker will look the audience in the eyes whey they speak...that will also draw emotion out of them.

As questions (simple close-ended questions)

Short, simple, and to the point.

Lots of examples.
