Tipping at bars...?

What's the standard for tipping a waitress bringing you a drink(s)? Is it a percentage? Minimum/maximum? What about if you order at the bar?

I'm trying to determine whether I was wrong or not in being curious as to why a waitress who brought me an overpriced bottle of water ($3 for about 250mL) with no glass or ice expected a tip.

I tipped the other girl, though... wonder if I tipped her right, too.

Depends on the level of service.

Good service - 30 percent from me, I'm generous.

Mediocre service - knife through the back.

Lousy service - severe beating and laceration of the throat, and the subsequent torching of the bar.

I tip 1$ per beer.

even if the beers are 1$, or 5$

and I usually don't have a waitress, just the bartender, (who is usually hot)

usually its 15%. I will be more generous with waitress, since they've done a bit more than a barman. Also cause at the end of the night they usually have to give a small percentage of what they've earned (1-4%) to both the barman and the busboy, while the barman only gives it to the busboy. At least thats how most bars work....

A buck a drink is just fine. If you get a couple of highballs for you and a buddy (average cost $4), just leave a five-spot.

If it's an upper-class place, and you're drinking martinis for $10 each, then go with 15% of the total bill.
