this is the way...step inside

The novel inspired the Joy Division song of the same name from their 1980 album Closer.

Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

In arenas he kills for a prize,
Wins a minute to add to his life.
But the sickness is drowned by cries for more,
Pray to God, make it quick, watch him fall.

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

This is the way.
This is the way.
This is the way.
This is the way.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

You'll see the horrors of a faraway place,
Meet the architects of law face to face.
See mass murder on a scale you've never seen,
And all the ones who try hard to succeed.

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

And I picked on the whims of a thousand or more,
Still pursuing the path that's been buried for years,
All the dead wood from jungles and cities on fire,
Can't replace or relate, can't release or repair,
Take my hand and I'll show you what was and will be.

those arethelyrics to "atrocity exhibition"

what a weird day sunday was
I'm a mortician( figures eh?)
and I waswoken this morning with a call from work
apparently an x-gf of mine grandmother died and she requested our funeral home and that I call her
so I call and I haven't spoken to her in 2+ years and I can tell she's upset
we chat some and though her gm is going to have her funeral and burial about 4hours from us she wants us to handle the prep because she has confidence in us and specifically wants me to embalm
I chat with her some and make her laugh a couple of times despite the situation (one of my talents is moving the grieving to laughter-humor is mood lifting and allows for some stress release)
and I go to work
come home and have this e-mail waiting for me from a woman I don't know responding to my personal ad

Hi Mike,
I am in Birmingham, AL this week (Aug 26) visiting my grandmother in
ICU (UAB) and wondering if you would like to exchange contact
information and try to meet for dinner, etc. If the interest is mutual, please
feel free to respond to [email protected] or simply call
xxx-xxx-xxxx. Look forward to hearing from you:)
