This gym was a stinker.....

Ok... previously the old Better Bodies was very nice. Huge, tons of equipment, etc....

So we go to the new location that they moved to.... it is an old bank. Yes, you read that right. And it was TINY.

Good lord. You want to know how tiny? It looked like one of those corporate "fitness" centers you find in hotels and resorts.

It was so tiny that they only brought over 1/5th of their equipment. Yes... I am serious... 1/5th...

They didn't have a pec dec... (not that I care for one or use it.. but every gym MUST have a pec dec)

They didn't have a leg extension machine .. (again, not that I use it for anything other than warming up my knees)

They did not have ANY calf equipment. NONE.

They did not have a T-bar or any kind of rowing machine (like the cybex)

Squat Rack - Nope. Just a smith machine (where the hell am I going to do my curls now?)

God... they had nothing. What they did bring over was a couple of benches, utility benches, lat pulldown (only 1), one seated row, one set of cable pulleys, one leg press machine, one cybex weight loaded seat ham machine... (no other hamstring equip in there at all), Hammer wide press, Hammer delt press, Hammer incline. That was it.

They had over 900 members at the last location.... and this is all they bring. The rest of the equipment was crap machines... I mean, they left some nice equipment that they could have brought with them... like the Hammer laying bench press with the slight incline... (I would love for my gym to have that... it is that fucking awesome).. various back machines, etc...

I was talking with the man that "owned" it when it was in the old location and he told me that the owners of the building was raising his monthly rent from $3000 to $12,000 so he had to move. Instead he sold the gym to a new guy who made all the decisions on what to bring and where to move. The guy asked him to sign a deal saying he would "work" there for 3 months so as not to scare the current clientel away and make the transaction a smooth one.

This place won't last until Christmas.

I kept looking for the logic in this... I can see a gym this time and sparsely equiped if you are in some location where you cater to the business/executive crowd that don't know shit about working out.

But the crowd at the old gym was pretty stacked.

How were the showers...

Post up some pics for Nathan... K?

This gym was so tiny... Nathan would have had to go out to his car to snort his drugs.... it would be impossible in there.

Come to think of it... I should have taken the weights out to my car to work out... more room there.

that fucking sucks....i guess this was the only building they could get. i can;t see how it would survive unless it keeps its membership prices low

couldnt they just cram more stuff in and get rid of any cardio area/fitness mats?

The free pass said One Free Workout and One Free Smoothie from the Juice Bar.

The smoothie saved it from being a wasted trip.

LOL.. Seriously
Imagine, someone toting a bench and DB outside to do sets...

More hardcore than ronnie doing parking lot lunges.

There was a gym here in DC that did that. The guy was losing clients to the bigger gyms and decided to cash out. The new gym owners did away with most of the equipment, and then installed a boxing ring in the middle.

I haven't been back since, so I don't know how it's doing. Maybe I should take up boxing.

where to start...

a) hotel gyms are ok in a hotel.

b) hotel gyms pretending to be real gyms are not ok under any circumstance.

c) Japanese hotel gyms are the worst on the planet.

I've become really creative when it comes to rearrange hotel room furniture to use chairs, the bed, the bathtub, tables and whatnot to get a decent maintenance workout. I still wonder what the hotel maids think when they see how I've tastefully (?) rearranged everything.

And, apparently, Japanese businessmen think a white man doing lunges in the hallway of the 36th floor of a high-rise hotel is a tad odd. Funny that.

What are these like....

Weird tranquilizing music with absolutely no rhythm whatsoever. Flowers and plants everywhere, curtains and weirdo stuff (can’t even describe it) dividing the (non-existing) parts of the gym, two treadmills, a dinky pool, a Jacuzzi, MAYBE a combo lat-pull/row/bench unit, one single flat bench, dumbbells ranging from 5 pounds to 25 pounds. And the worst part: Japanese women walking around in some kind of housecoat serving green tea.

Get the picture?

Would one be allowed to OHP a woman per hand with his fingers in their orifices? If so, I'll make it a point to train at a Japanese hotel just once in my long life.

oh sure, it's encouraged.

SAY FUCKING WHAT?

I guess that's a no. I'm bummed, now, dude. :(

sorry to break it to ya, but i think you'd get your sorry ass kicked out of the hotel in no time if you tried.

i guess someone's into Japanese ass, huh?

I actually am not attracted to Asians, but I figured I'd ask.

Kick me out? What will they do? Jump up and bite my knees?

Nah you'll just get an army of Japanese security guards yelling and screaming at ya to get your sorry ass out of there. You won't understand a word but you'll get the point. For sure.

This is NOT A RACISTS statement but Asians living in Asia tend to be very, very skinny (as opposed to Asian-Americans). If you want flat asses, Asia is the place for you.

I'm totally not attracted to Asians. Considering I am, among other things, an ass-man, they remain safe.

I'm into other Japanese things, though.

So am I: everything Sony makes.

Some people might get angry at me for this but i have to say it.

99.9% of the time I am not even the slightest bit raceist but there is one exeption.

Any Asian made music. This needs to stop NOW

If any Asian people are offended by this I am sorry. You know there are a shitload of other things that you can be very good at, but PLEASE don't try to start a band!

So what did you end up doing AAP?

There must have been some worth-a-shit exercises you managed to do. Also what weights did they use and how did they manage to feel the exercises?

A lot of beginners don't seem to be able to properly do back exercises no matter what so i was just wondering how they did.

That sucks AAP, but you just described 95% of the gyms here in Norway.

Ha! What did I say in the "Top 5 cities you would want to live in?" thread? All of you who listed Oslo as one of your favorite places to live have no clue...

Oslo is a beautiful place with great people but it would drive you bonkers if you used to the conveniences of the US (including gyms). Not to mention the eight month winter...

I REALLY admire guys like you who have to work with those tiny gyms, work your assess off to get any decent supplements (and i'm talking LEGAL supplements) and still do a good job. Some of the best physiques in the world have come from places like that.

For those of you who don't know, Bergen is a small city of 200,000 people or so (MrMuscle, correct me if I'm wrong). Absolutely stunning place, but about 300 miles from Oslo (where you probably you can find a couple of decent gyms) if you're willing to drive that far for a workout.

But... I'm sure ephedrine is illegal, forget your Ripped Force workout drink. There's probably not more than a few protein powder brands anywhere. I'm sure Detour bars won't be there for another few years (if ever).

Not to mention the "hotel gyms" they have to deal with.

AND SOME OF THESE GUYS KICK ASS! They get creative as all hell and look awesome!

35 pullups
3 sets of seated cable rows
3 sets modified clean and snatches
2 sets of high rep dumbell rows while leaning over an inclined bench supersetted with - what I call - reverse back shrugs. (hang on a bar like you are going to do a pullup... but flex your back and pull your torso up and shoulder blades back 2-3 inches while keeping your arms locked straight)

5 sets hypers.
