new orleans takes it's st patrick day celebrations seriously.
actually, any reason for a party and to drink to excess is taken seriously here in new orleans.
there are a couple of st paddy day p-rades in the city; one of them starts within a few feet of my favorite watering hole in this gay-friendly part of town. it finally did start around 7pm and stagger thru it's route.
leaning on an interior wall, trying to keep it from falling down, around 10 pm i heard this deep, gutteral, macho voice cut thru the din of drunken conversations and cheesy irish folk song cd canned music gurgling thru the ceiling speakers in my favorite bar:
"BITCH, if you wanna keep that arm attached to yo' skinny assed body u better TAKE IT THE HELLLLLL OFF MAH MANNN!"

one of the many, many reasons why i love living in new orleans.
