im from burma. im like 90 percent burmese and 10 percent chinese. god it pains me to see my country in such a state... and id gladly go back if i had the airfare. my ex girl friend and long time childhood friend was actually protesting with the people before the internet lines were cut so i have no idea what happend to her. shes actualyl beyond loaded, like hundreds of millions dollars worth of assets, but shes out there protesting with the common citizen. thats when you know its bad.. the rich aristocrats joining in on the revolution.

i feel for you. unfortunately we live in a society that is a sheep to it's leaders. So until Bush says 'al qaeda in Myanmar!' - no one will care.

It's sad, cuz these are innocent physical human beings being shot and murdered - and guys like me, who are trained to go over there and can help them - have to sit on our sofas and do nothing.

By economic disaster does that mean cutting off all foreign aid to everyone and funneling it back into the US economy since the very countries we give support hate us and bad mouth us anyway? That should be he start.

Personally I think we should build bases to guard the oil refineries and rigs and production lines to pay off this war. But that would piss off too many idiots in this country who would rather be able to say we failed.

we can't afford this war much longer. Point blank. This is the only thing that'll end the war. Hell, i can't even GO TO IRAQ cuz there's no funds! They can't afford more than 160,000 troops - so i have to go elsewhere. Isn't that funny. Telling a us soldier he can't go to war.

When people start losing their jobs, houses, benefits, taxes rise - tolerance for $12 billion/month runs DANGEROUSLY low. Violent riots in the streets are not far away. That's how Vietnam ended. People had to riot in the streets.

This war put us massively in debt - and now we're all gonna have to pay for it. Watch what this does to our dollar by next year. Fortunately Bush will be off and handing a clusterfuck to the next President to fix.

Myanmar is indeed rich in Hydrocarbons. The Yadana field is a world class field. However, they are mainly gas and will be consumed in the region - mostly in Thailand so no extra motivation for W to get involved.

This is too true. The Burmese would certainly welcome us there for now but as soon as we get rid of their Junta - they would be pissed we are still there and want us gone. Then the soldiers would get caught doing things they shouldn't, further pissed, hate us - protest against us blah blah blah.

The only way the Burmese will truely be happy is if they get this done theirself. However, they need assistance, they need funds, they need sanctions, they need SE Asia and China especially to put political pressure on these dudes. It needs to be handled regionally with the US helping, not led by the US.
