anyone can give me to explain why Gas prices vary so much.

I was in an area with three stations, Back to back staions mind ya.

Of course I just pull in at the first one, get out and do the whole pay at the pump thingy.. look up and gas is 3.09, so i'm about to begin pumping when I look across the steet and gas is freaking 2.89 there.

WTF!

So yea, I shut that baby down and drove across the street.

I can understand, just a tiny bit why it varys city to city.. but sheesh.

Frisky, you should be telling us. Don't you work in the Oil Industry?
:Chef: :tuc:

Yep sure do.

I think its a conspiracy. I just haven't figured it all out yet.

lol

The two stations probably got deliveries at different times and paid different amounts for thier gas. When the $2.89 station runs out of gas thier price will probably jump.

3.09 is the highest I've ever seen gas here. Seriously.

Most stations are between 2.69-2.89

It's running around 2.90 for Super around me. About a month ago that shit jumped over 50 cents in a day, but has backed down since.

It's best to fill your tank up early in the morning when it is the coldest. The colder the atmosphere the denser the gas is and the more you get :verygood:

I remember when gas was $.75 a gallon in 1996 or 1997. Them were the days.

I remember when it was 10 cents a gallon.

We pay (does various conversions...) $7.70 a gallon.

Actually that's an Imperial gallon so that'd be 'only' $6.16 for one of your gallons.

No wonder there are so many small cars over there. $6.00 would kill me.

$7.67 a US gallon in iceland right now.

You dont see many H1s flooding the grocery store parking lot... LOL.....

Its actually pretty simple. Large companies like Exxon/Mobile pay futures for there fuel oil. They lock in at a certain price ahead of time. Smaller companies do not have the cash for this luxury.
Now you may ask... "if they are paying ahead of time when the prices are lower why are they charging so much". Well, they need to ensure that they can buy the fuel oil at its current market price incase it does not correct and go back down.
Most independant gas stations don't make more then 3 cents a gallon these days.

this was and Exxon, Mobile, and Cheveron station. The Cheveron had the higher price.

IDK but i bet the higher station was pissed. Since they don't indepently govern price changes, it's all from people higher up. With that big of diff. you'd think they wouldn't get half as much business.

Various numbers get bandied about but, last time I took note, I think I saw that around 75% of the price we pay is taxation.

That means that out of the $6.16 per gallon we pay, the real price is $1.59 and the remaining $4.57 is taxes.

I remember sitting in the back seat of dad's Impala waiting in a gas line on an even numbered day. Dad bitching about OPEC and the stranglehold they had on us. Wow, how things have changed in 30 years.

They just want to see you get in and out of your vehicle.
There is a guy on the roof giving signals to the others to flip the price signs.
:)

Everytime gas prices go up someone important should be killed.

That way I'd feel better.
