Damn I was sitting here ready to watch some porn and all the sudden I hear talking outside my windows. But I'm on the 12th floor. Bastards are doing work on the building and scared the shit out of me.

Subsahara Africa was a cesspool before the European arrived. These was not a single sub-saharan culture that had a written language or the wheel for that matter. Do not believe that the african were some noble savage, living in an eden-like harmony with their environment, before the european arrived.
Don;t forget, it was the african who sold his brethren into slavery. don't forget the centuries of the arab slave trade. Indeed, in sub-saharan africa, slavery is STILL alive and well.
In post colonial africa, most of the 20th century infrastructure (roads, telephone exchanges, electric grids, hospitals, schools ect.) put in place by the european, was destroyed after the europeans left.
But, guess who's FAULT it is?

I suppose that if, over the last few hundred years, EDUCATION or BASIC RIGHTS or MEDICINE had been the rule, not the forbidden fruit, that things MIGHT be a bit different.
That all the empire building profits from the diamonds, and rubber, and gold, and phosphate, etc. had been left where they belonged, and a civil society was built or maintained by the oh so benevolent europeans, that maybe we might have some semblance of a society there now.
But no, the lesson taught, and very well learned as you pointed out, has been to fuck your neighbor out of everything you can and then ship it away... treat everyone not of the EXACT SAME ilk as you like a poison to be eradicated... good european christian ethics learned well by the 'students' .

I'm not defending colonialism, I just do not believe that all of the contempory problems of sub-saharan africa can be laid at the feet of the european.

My only point was that the europeans time there was not some benevolent visit that took nothing and left all sorts of lovely technology and infrastucture behind for the benefit of the natives.
