How Cheney Won Points :
Bringing up Edwards record of attending Senate meetings and hearings.
Bringing up the fact that he has no ulterior motives for 2008.
Pointing out his vast experience in Congress, including past posts held.
How Cheney Lost Points :
His statement about Kerry voting against certain weapon systems came back to bite him in the ass when Edwards pointed out that when cheney was in charge of Defense (prior to his VP position), he voted to end the exact same weapon programs.
He got caught in lies constantly. He flatly stated that he never said there were links between Saddam and 9/11. (we know this to be untrue as he was just purporting this last week).
He got caught twisting Kerry's words around from Thursday night.
He failed to address the Halliburton situation. Especially the outsourcing and and ongoing investigation.
He failed to defend his tax cut for the rich. Again, having Halliburton hammered over his head for creating loopholes that allowed them excessive tax cuts and freedom. In addition to having to pay millions of fines under his watch for providing false information.
He dodged questions so obviously it wasn't funny. He dodged the issue of jobs. Of outsourcing. Of tax cuts for the upper class.
His body language of sitting hunched over, rubbing his hands together, looking over his glasses and frowning projected someone with something to hide. (of course this is his normal habit, but it counted against him here.)
He failed to deny that he mislead the American people.
He failed to challenge the fact that Edwards was directly addressing him and saying he hid the truth.
His answer regarding AIDS and AfrAmer women was horrendous. Especially when the moderator gave him the figures in the question. He really had no clue to the issue. He could have played it off with an answer, but he had to admit that he didn't know the figures. (she provided him with them prior to him answering)
His record of subjective racists voting came back to bite him.
How Edwards Won Points
Taking it right to him immediately about misleading this country into war.
Continiously pointing out how the Administration failed on all accounts.
Pointing out the inconsistencies of Cheney's campaign remarks vs what he was saying in the debate vs what the reports from other Repub leaders and committees were saying.
Having a well laid out statement about jobs, outsourcing, healthcare and taxation. You may not have liked his answers, but at least HE HAD answers. Cheney didn't.
By sneakily getting in the fact that Cheney didn't even bother to address the question(s) asked, instead talking about a completely different subject.
Pointing out the failure with OBL.
Bringing up Cheney's voting record on the weapon systems he killed and combat troop pay cuts.
Exposing the similiarities of Cheney's tenure with Halliburton and his term as VP.
His medical plan for handling friviolous lawsuits. (Cheney didn't have an answer)
How Edwards Lost Points
His Senate attendance record isn't much to brag about.
He appeared too energetic at the start, but calmed down some.
He only has one term in Congress so far.
Maybe this is why the polls are favoring Edwards as the winner.
