Alright, there have been some requests to hear about what the 'bad thing i did' while i was gone, so here it is:
It started all due to my computer geekiness, and lack of respect for the things that belonged to my school.
I have a laptop, that came with a celeron M cpu, and I wanted to see if I could upgrade it to a pentium M cpu. I do not own a pentium M cpu, and i didnt want to buy one off ebay, until I knew it would work in my notebook.
the cpus dont have much of a performance difference, but the pentium gets better battery life.
So, I decided to test out one of the cpus in one of the schools computers in my laptop, to see if itd work.
I kinda found my way around a few locked doors to try out one of these computers. I took it out, and then I took my laptop out, and began the testing phase. I took both computers apart successfully, put the pentium M cpu in my notebook, booted up and it worked!!!
But then I decided to do something stupid. I put my celeron cpu back in the school's computer, to see if it would work in the school machine. I dont know why the hell i did this since it was unnecessary and just out of curiosity.
Anyways, I turned on the school computer with my cpu in, but it wouldnt boot. And after that I put the original cpu in, tried it, still wouldnt boot. So I tried everything after that to get it working again, but couldnt.
I somehow messed up the motherboard, which would cost $100 to order one to fix it.
I was debating whether I should try to fix it myself, and then realized that if I did they still would figure out that something happened to it, because the network address would end up changing on the machine.
Plus I decided it was probably smarter and morally better, to just fess up and told them what happened, before i put more work into fixing their machine.
I told ITS (my school tech dept) and i ended up meeting with some people. Now ironically I worked part time at ITS as well (as a student worker, making joke wages, and only getting 6 hours a week), but I just answered telephone calls for my job there.
Anyways they had my boss meet with me, and my boss decided on his own that he had to fire me.
Then to make matters worse, my school would not allow me to repair the machine, nor were they going to replace the board themselves, but they told me I had to pay $1200 for a brand new machine (the old one was worth a lot less, but whatever)
Then to make matters worse I had to meet with the Dean of Student Life. For awhile I was unsure whether they would let me remain in school or not, but later I met with the dean again, and he confirmed that I could stay, but only because I fessed up about it.
Luckily, thats all that has happened. And I have to meet with a mentor every 3 weeks now, but thats it. The school decided not to report this to outside authorities or anything.
But yeah, for awhile I just felt guilty and had to deal with a bunch of drama talking to deans, my boss, and other people, and for awhile i was worried about whether i would stay in school, whether it would get reported to the police etc.
but thankfully nothing really bad happened. I miss working with some of the people at ITS, since i'd worked there for 2.5 years, so that sucks, and I'm $1200 in the whole, but things could be a lot worse.
