The things we do for our pets (long read)

I come home Wednesday night to my fiance telling me one of our dogs hasn't ate all day and has gotten sick about five times. She would throw up clear mucus like liquid. We thought she must have had an upset stomach. I woke up to her barking so I thought she was ok. I then went into her room where she was sitting in this brown liquid. I let her out where she threw up the liquid again. At the point, I called the Vet. While on the phone, she threw up again but this time it was a puddle of blood. I rush her to the Vet where they check for Parvo. Negative. She was extremely dehydrated/thin. The Vet said they would put an IV in her to try to rehydrate her. She is very timid and does not like other people touching her without us there. My fiance had to leave work b/c they could not get an IV started and she would hav died without the IV. At that point, I took a half day off work to be with her.

She was looking a little better after a couple bags of fluid. The vet was closing so we had to take her home. Just as we were leaving the vet, a rvier of liquid/blood came rushing out of her rear end. They figured that was going to happen. If it happened one more time, they told us to rush her to the animal hospital. Well a few hours later, she threw up blood then more thick blood came rushing out of rear end. We rushed her down to the hospital where they proceeded to tell us the estimated cost would be between $500-$750. We pretty much broke down right there b/c that is a lot of money for us. We agreed then left her with them.

We picked her up at 7:00 the next morning b/c they were closing and bring her back to our Vet. The hospital said she threw up a couple times with some more diarrhea. She was looking better though. After getting to the Vet, they hooked her back up on an IV for more fluids. We came back a few hours later to her standing and wagging her tail as she saw us enter. Her body was a lot more full and her entire demeaner was much mroe happy. We took her outside and she still had liquid diarrhea but it was brown now instead of red. They said she must have ate a poisonous plant or something. They said that pretty all plants in Florida are toxic to dogs (excluding grass of course). They said she probably had HG which is short for some huge medical term. Something gastrointestinal where the stomach lining and intestines rip due to poisoning and throwing up excessively. So after $1000 and a lot of tears, she's finally back home. As a result of this, our mortgage, car payment, power, and numerous other bills will be more than a month late but it's definitely worth having our baby back:)

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that's so sweet!!! I feel for you!!! We have spent $10,000 in our animals this year alone. That's what happens when you have more than one. Someone is always sick. Just dropped another $200 down yesterday. I glad she is back home where she belongs. :D

shit that sucks man....glad she's ok

flexygrl 10 G's!!!!?? omg....do you own a farm or something???

JB,

No we have 4 cats and 2 dogs. 1 cat got really sick last August. We spent over $5,000 on him and he died. It was really sad. The rest of the money is just on colds, stomach aches, vaccines, medication, ya know, all that stuff.
