The row gut?

Man, anyone else here get this? Whenever I do rows it looks like I am semi-pregnant or something.

That said, I really love rowing dynamically and it has by far been my favorite part of the 5x5 experience so far. They are just so damn fun.

It happens to me if I dont tighten my abs. The first few times I did rows I looked like a gorilla, bent over with a big belly pushing out and arms flexing. I almost laughed out loud. So to fix it I tighten my abs ahhaha.

Maybe I will try flexing my abs. I just do whatever is comfortable yet still allows me to hit close to being parallel with the ground.

Yes, I'm a fat bastard, too. Ironically, I think it's helped me to find, finally, some good form on the Pendlay rows. I've had to widen my legs to make room for my paunch and gonads and, with a little sitting back thrown in, I feel really stable during the row.

blut, tht's interesting.

I always keep my feet closer for Pendlay's

probably cuz I had to drop about 50-60 lbs off the bar and it just feels so easy for the rest of my body. :P

I have my feet set at pretty much shoulder width apart which is about 18". I used to have them closer but this works better with the sitting back and I can get my back flat and low enough to deload comfortably between reps. The bar shaves past my knees as I come up and catches them occasionally if I'm lax.

I keep my abdominal girdle tight since there's stress on my core during the movement but I can't see what benefit to the exercise would come from sucking the abs in.

I have problems if I've eaten to close to going to the gym. Pressure on my abs makes the rows no fun and the meal wants to come out of one end while my oats are wanting the other end.
